Blasterjaxx is a Dutch DJ and music producer duo consisting of Thom Jongkind (born 1990) and Idir Makhlaf (born 1991). They are best known for their powerful and melodic tracks in the genres of big room house, electro house, and progressive electronic music.
History
In 2010, Thom Jongkind, known under the alias Scalix, founded the project Blasterjaxx together with producer Leon Vielvoije, who soon left the duo. Jongkind continued working under the same name and started collaborating with Idir Makhlaf, also known as Macosta. Shortly after, Makhlaf officially joined the project, and the duo took the form in which it is known today.
In 2012, they released the EP "Reborn" in collaboration with D-Rashid, which included the tracks "Reborn" and "Where We Go", signed to Mixmash Records, the label owned by Laidback Luke. In early 2013, the duo released "Loud & Proud" together with Billy The Kit on Musical Freedom, the label of Tiësto. Blasterjaxx also created remixes for Tiësto’s hits "Adagio for Strings" and "Love Comes Again", as well as contributing to the official remix of "United" — the anthem of Ultra Music Festival.
The duo has collaborated with major stars such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta, Hardwell, Afrojack, and Nicky Romero. Their single "Faith" became a major hit in the Netherlands (2013) and Sweden (2014), while "Fifteen" with Hardwell solidified their position on the global scene.
In 2013, Blasterjaxx debuted in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs ranking at #71, climbed to #13 in 2014, and stayed within the Top 20 for several consecutive years. Their popularity soared thanks to their combination of festival energy and emotional melodicism.
In September 2015, Idir Makhlaf announced he would stop touring due to panic attacks, but continued studio production with Thom. Since then, Jongkind represents the duo during live performances, while Idir focuses on production and songwriting.
In 2024, Blasterjaxx unveiled their new techno alias THOMM, showcasing their exploration of deeper and darker electronic sounds.
Radio Show — Maxximize On Air
In addition to studio work and festival sets, the duo hosts their own radio show, Maxximize On Air — a weekly program dedicated to the best in electronic music, exclusive premieres, and signature mixes. The show embodies the essence of Blasterjaxx — powerful drops, epic melodies, and the energy of the world’s biggest festivals.
