Early Years and Career Beginnings
Linda (real name — Svetlana Georgievna Geiman) was born on April 29, 1977 in Kentau, Kazakhstan. She spent her childhood in Moscow, where she developed an early passion for music, singing, and performing. As a teenager, she participated in various contests and festivals, which shaped her future path in show business.
After finishing school, Linda entered the Gnessin State Musical College (now the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music), where she studied vocals and stage performance. It was during this period that she began taking her first serious steps toward a professional music career.
Breakthrough and Collaboration with Maxim Fadeev
The turning point in Linda’s career came with her collaboration with producer and composer Maxim Fadeev. In 1994, she released her debut album “Songs of Tibetan Lamas”, which instantly made her one of the most talked-about artists in the country. The hits “Marijuana”, “Chains and Rings”, and “Playing with Fire” became not just popular songs but defined a new direction in Russian pop culture, blending techno, ethnic, and gothic elements.
Linda’s music stood out for its deep lyrics, mystical atmosphere, and unconventional performance style. Her image — mysterious and free from mainstream pop clichés — became a symbol of the alternative wave of the 1990s.
Rise to Fame
In 1996, Linda released the album “Crow” (Vorona), one of the most successful works of the decade. The title track “Vorona” became an anthem of a generation and earned her cult status. The album combined elements of indie, pop rock, and ethnic motifs, receiving multiple awards and critical acclaim.
Between 1997 and 1999, Linda toured extensively, performing to sold-out crowds across Russia and the CIS. She became the recipient of numerous music awards, including the Ovation and Golden Gramophone.
Further Work and Experimentation
After parting ways with Maxim Fadeev in the late 1990s, Linda continued her solo career, experimenting with sound and style. Albums such as “Placenta” (2001), “AtakA” (2004), and “AleAda” (2006) revealed a shift toward more electronic and industrial tones. Throughout her evolution, she maintained her recognizable aesthetic and commitment to alternative artistry.
In later years, she released “ScéNario” (2015) and “Pain” (2020), showcasing new sides of her artistry — philosophical lyrics, profound meanings, and immersive soundscapes.
Modern Era
Today, Linda remains active in the music scene, performing at festivals and club venues, and collaborating with contemporary producers and musicians. Her style continues to blend rock, electronic, ethnic, and mystical elements. The artist engages closely with her audience through social media, and her songs continue to resonate with a new generation of listeners.
