Унесенные ветром - Biography and discography, all albums and songs

Унесенные ветром

The Russian group “Unesyonnye Vetrom” (“Gone with the Wind”) appeared on the music scene in 1997 and quickly became a bright and memorable phenomenon of the late 1990s – early 2000s. The project was created by two talented artists:

  • Tatyana Morozova — vocalist, the face and voice of the group,

  • Dmitry Chizhov — poet, composer, arranger, and ideological leader.

The creative tandem of Tatyana and Dmitry became the core of the group and remained unchanged throughout its entire history, while the surrounding lineup shifted from time to time, giving the project flexibility and room for experimentation.

Early Years and First Success (1997–1999)

The band’s first album, “Poltergeist” (1998), marked the official start of their professional career. A music video was filmed for the track “Strashno sidet’ odnoi” (“Scary to Sit Alone”), and the song quickly entered radio rotation. That same year, the group was nominated for the “Silver Galosh” award due to similarities between the song and Marina Khlebnikova’s “Chashka kofeu.” Later it was revealed that both songs were written by the same author — Dmitry Chizhov, eliminating all questions.

The true breakthrough came with the superhit “Kakao-kakao”. Supported by the radio station “Europa Plus,” the song spread across the country, becoming a near-folk hit. The humorous style, lightness, and melodic arrangements made the group one of the most unusual acts of the pop scene.

Rise to Popularity and Mature Period (2000–2007)

The group actively toured, participated in TV programs, and released new music. During these years, the following albums were released:

  • “Unesyonnye Vetrom — Vol. 2” (1999) — participation in “Pesnya goda” (“Song of the Year”);
  • “Unesyonnye Vetrom — Vol. 3” (2000);
  • “Polnaya versiia” (“Full Version”) (2002) — the band was invited to Alla Pugacheva’s “Christmas Meetings”;
  • active participation in shows, music videos, and festivals.

In 2004 the group received the “Pilar–2004” diploma for artistry and contribution to cultural initiatives.

The mid-2000s brought new material:

  • “Lyubovnoe nastroenie” (“Love Mood”) (2005), including retro covers of “Katyusha,” “Romashki,” and “Staryi klyon”;
  • “Lyogkii namek” (“A Light Hint”) (2006);
  • “Zvezdnaya liniya” (“Star Line”) (2007).

During this period, the group actively collaborated with other artists: for example, the video for “Pupsik”, filmed with Filipp Kirkorov, gained wide attention.

Style and Artistic Features

“Unesyonnye Vetrom” developed their own aesthetic — a mix of dance-pop music, light parody, humor, romance, and playfulness. The gentle lyrical vocals of Tatyana Morozova combined with the humorous, ironic lyrics of Dmitry Chizhov gave the band its unique charm.

Foreign covers adapted into Russian became a signature trait — for example, the Russian version of the Arabesque hit “Americans” (“Amerikantsy”) remained popular and was broadcast as late as 2010 on the show “I snova zdravstvuite.”

Social Activity

The group frequently performed at charity concerts — in orphanages, schools, hospitals, and military units. For their contribution to social initiatives, they were awarded the “For Mercy” medal.

Touring Activity

Over the years, the group toured not only across Russia and the CIS but also abroad. Their light and positive repertoire resonated with audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds.

Rare Facts

  • Dmitry Chizhov wrote both songs — “Strashno sidet’ odnoi” and “Chashka kofeu” — so accusations of plagiarism were unfounded.
  • The name “Unesyonnye Vetrom” (“Gone with the Wind”) originated as a joke about the group’s “lightness” — and ended up sticking forever.
  • The band was one of the first in Russia to actively use elements of European pop-parody and humorous dance performance — long before the TikTok era.
  • At various times, the group recorded material for foreign soundtracks and TV programs, though many of those projects were never officially released.
  • In the early period, the group performed under several experimental pseudonyms, but the main brand gained traction thanks to the success of “Kakao-kakao.”
  • Despite her playful stage persona, vocalist Tatyana Morozova has formal academic vocal training.
  • The group was a regular participant of major television shows — “Musical Ring,” “OSP-Studio,” “Song of the Year,” and “Christmas Meetings.”

Conclusion

“Unesyonnye Vetrom” remains one of the brightest pop groups of the late 1990s / early 2000s, seamlessly blending irony, lightness, dance energy, and heartfelt warmth. Their songs are still played on retro radio, and their videos remain part of the cultural memory of that era. The group created a unique atmosphere — joyful, witty, and radiant — leaving a lasting mark on the history of Russian pop music.
