ППК - Biography and discography, all albums and songs

ППК

PPK is a Russian trance project founded in 1998 in Rostov-on-Don. The name comes from the first letters of the founders’ surnames: Pimenov – Polyakov – Korzhov. Just a few years later, the group became one of the most famous electronic music projects from Russia on the global dance scene, paving the way for trance music from Russia to enter international dancefloors.

Formation and Early Years

  • The group was formed by Sergey Pimenov, an experienced DJ, and Alexander Polyakov, musician and sound engineer.

  • Roman Korzhov was initially part of PPK, but left the project shortly afterwards — PPK continued as a duo.

  • Their first live performance took place on 21 February 1998 at the “Syndicate DJ 2000” festival in front of 6,500 people.

  • In August 1998, PPK performed at Kazantip, and on December 5 released their debut album “Feel the Sleepless!!!”.

Internet Breakthrough and Global Fame

The years 1999–2000 became a turning point:

  • PPK uploaded their music to mp3.com, where tracks like “21st Century”, “I Have a Dream”, and later “ResuRection” reached top positions in global charts.

  • Their tracks were downloaded over 2.5 million times in one year — an unprecedented number for Russia at that time.

  • Paul Oakenfold, one of the world’s leading DJs, heard “ResuRection” and began playing it in his sets.

ResuRection — the Track That Became a Revolution

  • The main melody is based on Eduard Artemyev’s soundtrack from the film “Siberiade”.

  • At the end of 2001, the single was released on Perfecto Records.

  • It reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart — the first time a Russian electronic track entered the UK Top 3.

  • PPK received the Silver Disc Award from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for selling over 200,000 copies in the UK.

  • The track entered the BBC Radio 1 chart, Pepsi Chart and UK Dance Chart.
    It was a global success that cemented PPK’s place in trance history.

Later Releases and Development

  • 2002 — PPK launched their own label Uplifto Records and released the single “Reload”, based on music by the Soviet band “Zodiac”.

  • The compilation “Russian Trance: Formation” was released.

  • PPK’s music began playing on Western radio stations, and they performed at festivals in Russia and across Europe.

Breakup and Comebacks

  • 2003 — the duo disbanded.

  • 2010 — one-time reunion of all three members, including Roman Korzhov.

  • In 2016, Roman Korzhov passed away.

  • 2020 — Sergey Pimenov announced the “re-founding” of PPK together with Evgeny Khramkov (DJ Hacker) — the name now stands for Pimenov Plus Khramkov.

  • New tracks appeared: “Zodiac 2020 Reload”, “Inspiration”, “Immersion”.

Legacy and Influence

PPK became the first Russian electronic project to:

  • bring Russian trance into international music charts;

  • prove that electronic music from post-Soviet countries could stand alongside Armin van Buuren and Paul Oakenfold;

  • create an immortal rave anthem — “ResuRection”, still played at festivals today.

PPK is more than a musical project — it is a symbol of the era when electronic music in Russia was just emerging and first made its mark on the global scene. Their journey shows how passion, technology and artistic freedom can turn a local phenomenon into an international success.

“ResuRection” changed how Russian music was seen abroad — proving that world-class trance could come not only from the UK, Germany or the Netherlands, but from Rostov-on-Don. PPK became a bridge between Soviet electronic film music and modern club culture, inspiring a new generation of producers.

Even years after their breakup, their tracks remain relevant — played by DJs, at festivals and listed as trance classics. And their periodic returns prove: PPK lives wherever the heart of electronic music beats, and wherever people feel this sound.
