Pitbull - Biography and discography, all albums and songs | Pages: 5

Pitbull

Pitbull (birth name — Armando Christian Pérez) is an American rapper, singer, producer, and entrepreneur of Cuban descent. One of the most successful artists of the 2010s, his hits fuse rap, Latin fire, and pop sensibility.
He’s defined by charisma, a signature switch between English and Spanish in his songs, and an upbeat image that embodies a “from nothing to something” success story.

Early life and background

Armando Pérez was born on January 15, 1981, in Miami, Florida (USA) to a family of Cuban immigrants. His parents left Cuba after the revolution, and he grew up bilingual, surrounded by both English and Spanish.
From an early age he was drawn to poetry and music, influenced by Cuban rhythms as well as American hip-hop of the ’80s and ’90s.

Pitbull’s childhood wasn’t easy: he lived in a poor neighborhood shaped by street culture, but that’s where his grit and belief in himself were forged.

First steps and rise

In the late 1990s Pitbull began recording his first tracks, inspired by Miami bass (Miami Bass) and Southern rap.
His early experiments caught the attention of legendary producer Luke (2 Live Crew), with whom he worked in the late ’90s.

A breakthrough came with Lil Jon, one of the creators of crunk.
In 2002 they recorded the track “Oye”, and Pitbull later appeared on the platinum album “Kings of Crunk”, which opened the door to wider recognition.

Debut and early albums (2004–2008)

In 2004 Pitbull signed with TVT Records and released his debut album “M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is A Major Issue)”, produced by Lil Jon.

The single “Culo” became an instant club sensation and cemented Pitbull as a rising star.
The album sold in the millions, making him a face of the new wave of Latin hip-hop.

Subsequent releases strengthened his position:

  • “El Mariel” (2006) — a blend of hip-hop and reggaetón, touching on immigration and personal struggle;

  • “The Boatlift” (2007) — experiments with Latin rhythms;

  • “Rebelution” (2009) — featuring the hits “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Hotel Room Service”, which took him into international charts.

Global fame and the hit era (2010–2015)

From 2010, Pitbull became a global superstar.
His album “Armando” (2010) — his first entirely in Spanish — cemented his success across Latin America.

The true worldwide breakthrough was “Planet Pit” (2011) — singles like “Give Me Everything” (feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack, Nayer), “Rain Over Me” (feat. Marc Anthony), and “International Love” (feat. Chris Brown) became international smashes.
The record sold over 5 million copies and went platinum around the world.
