Krovostok — is a Russian hip-hop group from Moscow, formed in the early 2000s. The project was founded by artists Anton Chernyak (Shilo) and Dmitry Fine (Feldman, Doctor Feldman). Beatmaker Sergey Krylov (Polutrup) was part of the early lineup, while Konstantin Rudchik (Fantomas 2000) became the group's main composer in 2007.
Krovostok became known for crime stories, black humor, literary storytelling and Shilo's almost emotionless delivery. The group's songs feature criminals, drug users, killers, random victims, police officers, small-time adventurers and people trapped in destructive environments. From the beginning, these characters were conceived as fictional creations rather than autobiographical versions of the group members.
Krovostok's main albums include «Река крови», «Сквозное», «Гантеля», «Студень», «Ломбард», «ЧБ», «Наука» and «Пиры и раны». Among the group's best-known songs are «Биография», «С.Б.Ш.», «Гантеля», «Шурик», «Куртец», «Думай позитивно», «Снайпер», «Чебурашка», «Пожар», «Амфибия» and «Ленин».
Art School and Fenso
The story of Krovostok did not begin in the rap scene. Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine met while studying at the Moscow Art School in Memory of 1905.
Anton Chernyak was born in Moscow in 1971. After art school, he worked with graphics, installations, objects and performance art. From 1993 to 1995, he was a member of the art group Fenso, and in the late 1990s he became involved with the collective PG («Protivotankovaya Granata»).
Dmitry Fine was born in Moscow in 1970. He also studied at the 1905 Art School, was one of the organizers and members of Fenso, and worked with photography, installation and performance.
Their experience in Moscow's 1990s contemporary art scene later had a clear impact on Krovostok's creative method: character, provocation, distance between the author and the statement, and play with context all became part of the rap project.
PG, PushkinG and Polutrup
After Fenso, Anton Chernyak joined the art group PG, known for provocative actions, graphic work, installations and a countercultural aesthetic.
Sergey Krylov (Polutrup) was also connected to this circle. Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine met him at the PushkinG art club.
Sergey Krylov worked as a DJ and had a strong knowledge of hip-hop and electronic music. He became the main beatmaker during Krovostok's early period and composed the music for the group's first two albums.
The Formation of Krovostok
The project began to take shape around 2003. Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine experimented with texts performed over hip-hop and breakbeat instrumentals.
At the «43 Degrees» studio in Moscow's Pechatniki district, Shilo performed early versions of future songs including «Биография», «Ольга», «Белый ягуар», «Жесть» and other tracks before any official recordings appeared. Konstantin Rudchik, also known as Fantomas 2000, was among those who heard this material during its early stage.
Krovostok distributed its first recordings through its own website. The internet allowed the group to work directly with listeners without relying on radio or major record labels.
The name Krovostok appeared almost simultaneously with the project itself.
Characters in the Songs
Most of Krovostok's lyrics are written in the first person. The narrator may commit crimes, use drugs, participate in violence or describe a criminal environment as ordinary everyday life.
However, the narrator's voice should not automatically be identified with Anton Chernyak or Dmitry Fine. The stories drew on impressions of Moscow in the 1990s, accounts from acquaintances, observations of their surroundings and crime reports.
The combination of realistic language with a fictional narrator later became one of the group's most widely discussed characteristics.
«Река крови»
On May 18, 2004, Krovostok released its debut album «Река крови».
The record consists of ten tracks. Sergey Krylov's minimalist beats leave considerable space for the lyrics, while Shilo delivers long stories in an almost unchanging tone.
One of the key songs was «Биография» — the story of a criminal's life from childhood to its inevitable conclusion. The protagonist describes murder, drugs and his own self-destruction without attempting to justify himself or evoke sympathy.
The album also included «Теряю голову», «Лобстер-пицца», «Белый ягуар», «Ольга» and «Жесть».
Even on its debut, Krovostok stood apart from a significant part of Russian rap in the early 2000s. The members did not attempt to prove any personal connection to the criminal world they depicted and openly remained the creators of an artistic construction.
First Concerts
Krovostok's first performances attracted a relatively small Moscow audience connected to the art and underground scenes.
From the autumn of 2004, the group began playing clubs regularly. Anton Chernyak barely changed his stage manner: Shilo delivered the lyrics calmly and almost motionlessly, without the emotional expressiveness typical of many rap performers.
This style of performance intensified the contrast between the voice and the content of the songs.
«Сквозное»
In 2006, Krovostok released its second studio album, «Сквозное», with music once again composed by Sergey Krylov.
The album contains fifteen tracks. Among the best known are «С.Б.Ш.», «Мой ствол», «Людоед», «Хочешь?», «Простые слова», «Приоритеты» and «Синее небо».
On «Сквозное», it became clear that the group did not intend to limit itself to stories styled exclusively around the criminal culture of the 1990s. The lyrics began to include more everyday observations, a wider range of characters and more black humor.
Fantomas 2000
After the first two albums, Sergey Krylov stopped working with the group on a permanent basis. The role of main beatmaker passed to Konstantin Rudchik (Fantomas 2000).
Konstantin Rudchik was connected to the «43 Degrees» collective and had known the members of Krovostok since the project's early period. From 2007 onward, he became the group's regular composer and later also contributed backing vocals to recordings.
The instrumentals became more varied and acquired more independent detail, although the lyrics remained the central element of each track.
«Гантеля»
In 2008, Krovostok released its third studio album, «Гантеля» — the group's first full-length work with music by Fantomas 2000.
The album consists of fifteen tracks. Among the best known are «Гантеля», «Шурик», «ГЭС», «Киса», «Ночь» and «Метадон».
Crime stories remained, but the characters became more varied and the narratives noticeably more absurd. Increasingly, the humor came not only from shocking details but from the internal logic of the characters' behavior.
It was songs from «Гантеля» that later became the focus of the 2015 court case involving the group.
«Студень»
After a four-year break, Krovostok released its fourth album, «Студень», on March 24, 2012.
It contains fourteen tracks, including «Куртец», «Думай позитивно», «Деревня», «Ужален», «Генетика», «Весна» and «Молния».
By this point, the group's working method had become established: the text was written first, after which Fantomas 2000 selected the tempo, musical atmosphere and instrumentation to fit the specific story.
«Ломбард»
On March 6, 2015, Krovostok released its fifth studio album, «Ломбард».
The record contains eleven tracks. Among the most notable are «Снайпер» and «Ногти».
By then, Krovostok had existed for more than a decade and had grown from an underground art project into a group with an established concert audience.
The 2015 Court Case
In the spring of 2015, following a Krovostok concert in Yaroslavl, the regional branch of Russia's Federal Drug Control Service drew attention to the group's lyrics.
In July, the Kirovsky District Court of Yaroslavl ruled that information published on Krovostok's website was prohibited from distribution and ordered access to the site to be restricted. The ruling was based on expert reports whose authors interpreted the songs as promoting violence, drug use and antisocial behavior.
Particular attention was given to eleven tracks from the album «Гантеля».
Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine appealed the ruling. Their position was that the songs depict crimes and drug use but do not encourage listeners to repeat the actions of the characters.
On November 12, 2015, the Yaroslavl Regional Court overturned the original ruling and rejected the prosecution's demands. Restrictions on access to the website and the ban on the lyrics were lifted.
The case became one of the most widely discussed conflicts surrounding Russian-language music in the 2010s and directly raised the question of the distinction between an author and a fictional first-person narrator.
«ЧБ»
On March 30, 2018, Krovostok released its sixth studio album, «ЧБ».
The record contains eleven tracks, including «Чебурашка», «Пожар», «Злые голуби», «Вишенка», «Столярка» and «Холодок».
By this period, Krovostok's thematic range had expanded considerably. Alongside criminal characters appeared everyday absurdity, memories, aging, human weaknesses and almost surreal situations.
«Наука»
On March 19, 2021, Krovostok released its seventh album, «Наука».
It consists of ten tracks, including «Амфибия», «Дети», «Делают», «Поточное», «Сердце майора», «Кого-то помнишь» and «Сквирт».
Before the album's release, «Дети» and «Зашёл, вышел» were issued as standalone singles.
On «Наука», the criminal environment finally ceased to be an essential foundation for the stories. Some songs deal with memory, fear, everyday logic and human oddities, while the group's characteristic detached delivery remains intact.
«Бабочки», «Ленин» and «Подозрение»
After «Наука», the group once again moved toward releasing individual singles.
In July 2022, Krovostok released «Бабочки», followed by «Ленин» in 2023.
On May 23, 2025, the group released «Подозрение». The lyrics are built around the consciousness of a person who sees hidden meanings, deception and conspiracy everywhere and gradually loses trust in the reality around him.
The familiar criminal protagonist is almost entirely absent from this song, but the group's literary method remains the same: the listener is placed inside the character's logic and gradually sees how destructive it becomes.
«Пиры и раны»
On December 12, 2025, Krovostok released its eighth studio album, «Пиры и раны» — the group's first full-length release since «Наука».
The album contains eleven tracks, including the previously released «Бабочки», «Ленин» and «Подозрение», as well as «Столовая», «Миша», «Бей / Беги», «Огонёк», «Батя» and other songs.
Criminal characters appear again on the album, but alongside them are stories about family, aging, suspicion and everyday life.
The musical form remains characteristic of late-period Krovostok: compact tracks, Shilo's calm delivery and Fantomas 2000 instrumentals shaped around the structure of each individual text.

How Krovostok Creates Songs
Work on a song usually begins with the lyrics. The beatmaker then determines the tempo, mood and musical structure.
Fantomas 2000 selects instruments according to the character of each individual story, which means the instrumental part directly depends on the rhythm and intonation of the text.
Sergey Krylov's early beats differ noticeably from Konstantin Rudchik's later music, but the purpose of the arrangement remains the same — to create space in which the story occupies the central position.
Shilo's Delivery
One of Krovostok's most recognizable characteristics is Anton Chernyak's delivery.
Shilo makes almost no use of traditional rap expressiveness, rarely raises his voice and does not emphasize climactic moments through intonation.
As a result, a violent event can be described in exactly the same tone as an ordinary everyday detail. Much of the tension in Krovostok's songs comes precisely from the narrator's lack of emotional reaction.
Black Humor
Despite the group's dark reputation, humor has been present in Krovostok's music almost from the very beginning.
The comic effect often comes from incompatible details: a violent event appears alongside something mundane, criminal bravado is paired with obvious absurdity, and a confident narrator fails to recognize how ridiculous his own behavior is.
As a result, the same track can simultaneously function as a crime story, a black comedy and a social caricature.
Krovostok and Gangsta Rap
Krovostok is often classified as gangsta rap: weapons, drugs, crime and marginalized environments do indeed occupy a significant part of the group's early discography.
However, Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine have never hidden their background in contemporary art and never attempted to present themselves as real participants in the criminal world portrayed in the songs.
Krovostok's music is therefore more accurately understood at the intersection of gangsta rap, alternative rap, literary storytelling and conceptual art.
Contemporary Art and Rap
Anton Chernyak and Dmitry Fine's artistic background is important primarily for understanding the group's creative method.
Working through fictional characters, provocation, context and distance between the author and the statement was already part of their artistic practice before Krovostok. In the music project, these techniques were transferred into the form of rap songs.
For this reason, reading the lyrics literally as direct statements by the authors often leads to a misunderstanding of the material.

Krovostok as an Art Project
Over two decades, Krovostok's lineup and musical framework have changed less than the themes and characters in its songs. Anton Chernyak remains the voice of the project, Dmitry Fine remains one of its principal lyricists and producers, while Konstantin Rudchik is responsible for most of the music from the later period.
While the early albums largely worked with criminal language and the psychology of the post-Soviet 1990s, later recordings increasingly turn to family, aging, memory, anxiety and everyday absurdity. The central method, however, remains recognizable: a calm narrator describes a situation in detail, while the group leaves its emotional interpretation to the listener.
