Mitya Fomin is preparing the premiere of the music video “Lights of the Big City,” inspired by a Pet Shop Boys hit. Filming in Saint Petersburg involved vibrant club youth and sparked major excitement.
Former member of the group Hi-Fi, Mitya Fomin, began his independent creative career in early 2010, although the decision to leave the band was made back in 2008, when the singer felt he had outgrown the role of being “just one of” the group members. At that time, several songs performed by him reached top positions in music charts, and soon his debut solo album “It Will Be Like This!” was released. One of the tracks from the album, “Everything Will Be Fine!”, received the prestigious Golden Gramophone award in the same year, 2010.
Recently, Mitya recorded a new song — “Lights of the Big City”, in which he used motifs from the famous track “Paninaro” (an Italian slang word roughly meaning “cool guy”) by the group Pet Shop Boys. “Paninaro” was first released in 1986, and today Mitya Fomin has given the song a new life and a fresh sound.
Fomin decided to shoot the music video for “Lights of the Big City” in Saint Petersburg, at one of the most iconic clubs of Russia’s cultural capital — “Loshadka Party”. The most creative and progressive youth from Moscow and St. Petersburg gather at this event, dancing and partying until morning. The spectacle is truly flamboyant: theatrical makeup, outfits with LED elements and sparkling rhinestones, extravagant footwear, elaborate wigs, body glitter, tight latex and even… a complete absence of underwear — all of this resembles a carnival show rather than just a party, even an elite one.
On April 9, 2011, before filming began, real excitement erupted: too many people wanted to “shine” in the video of the famous singer. They fought, stormed barriers, and tried to break through the face control straight into the club, bypassing the ticket office. At one point, the old wooden gates on Nevsky Prospect that blocked access to the filming location nearly fell victim to the unruly crowd.
Despite such a dramatic start, the video was successfully completed, and Mitya Fomin, who also acted as the director, decided to create two versions from the footage. One will be a broadcast version for television, while the second will be an uncensored online edition. Like any creative artist, Mitya strives to create something unusual, which is why he made this unconventional decision. The premiere of the video “Lights of the Big City” is scheduled for early May. All that remains is to wish Mitya Fomin further success and new songs that will continue to delight his fans.
