Vera Viktorovna Galushka (stage name — Vera Brezhneva; born February 3, 1982, in Dniprodzerzhynsk, Ukrainian SSR, USSR; now Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian singer, actress and television presenter. She became widely known as a member of «VIA Gra», performing with the group from 2003 to 2007. After leaving the band, she launched a solo career, releasing the albums «Любовь спасёт мир» and VERVERA, the EP V., dozens of singles, while also working in television and film. Since 2022, a separate Ukrainian-language direction has emerged in her repertoire under the name VIRA. At the same time, she continues to use the stage name Vera Brezhneva in concert in 2026.

Brezhneva’s solo repertoire is built mainly around pop music with elements of dance-pop and electronic music. Her best-known solo recordings include «Я не играю», «Любовь спасёт мир», «Лепестками слёз» with Dan Balan, «Реальная жизнь», «Хороший день», «Доброе утро», «Девочка моя», «Мамочка», «Номер 1», «Близкие люди» and «Ты мой человек». In the 2020s, these were joined by Ukrainian-language releases such as «Вишиванка», «Такі ми люди», «Дякую», «Зупини», «Все мине», «ТИ» and «Красива».

Childhood in Dniprodzerzhynsk

Vera Galushka grew up in a working-class family. Her parents were employed in industries connected with Dniprodzerzhynsk’s large industrial enterprises. The family had four daughters: the eldest, Galina, Vera, and younger twin sisters Anastasia and Victoria. In interviews, Brezhneva recalled that the family lived quite modestly during the 1990s, as the economic crisis and delayed wages at local factories affected her parents’ financial situation.

During her school years, she practiced several sports, including handball, basketball and karate, and was interested in dancing and foreign languages. She had no professional musical education that would have predetermined a career as a singer.

After school, Galushka enrolled in the correspondence department of the Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Railway Transport Engineers, studying economics. In a January 2003 interview with the newspaper Fakty, after already joining VIA Gra, she said that she was continuing her studies at the institute. Later biographical sources state that she completed her education.

The VIA Gra concert and audition for the group

Vera’s first direct encounter with VIA Gra took place in 2002. During the group’s concert in Dnipropetrovsk, members of the audience were invited on stage to perform «Попытку №5» together with the singers. Galushka was among those who accepted the invitation.

That appearance from the audience did not automatically lead to an invitation to join the group. Later, when Alena Vinnitskaya decided to leave the lineup, an audition was held for a new member. Vera Galushka passed the audition in autumn 2002. In January 2003, she officially appeared in the renewed VIA Gra lineup.

For her work in the group, she adopted the stage name Vera Brezhneva. The pseudonym was associated with her birthplace: Dniprodzerzhynsk was also the hometown of Soviet political leader Leonid Brezhnev, although there was no family connection between them.

VIA Gra’s «golden lineup»

At the beginning of 2003, Anna Sedokova, Nadezhda Granovskaya and Vera Brezhneva performed together in the group. This trio is the lineup most often described as the «golden lineup» in VIA Gra’s history. For this reason, the common description that reduces the «golden lineup» to Brezhneva and Granovskaya alone is incomplete: the third member was Anna Sedokova.

During this period, some of the group’s best-known recordings were made and released. Brezhneva appeared in the video for «Не оставляй меня, любимый!» and later in material associated with the album «Биология». Together with Valery Meladze, the group recorded «Океан и три реки» and «Притяженья больше нет».

In spring 2004, Sedokova left the group. For several months, Svetlana Loboda performed alongside Brezhneva and Granovskaya, before being replaced by Albina Dzhanabaeva in the autumn. The lineup changed several more times over the following years, while Brezhneva remained a regular member until summer 2007.

Her period in the group is also associated with songs such as «Биология», «Бриллианты», «Нет ничего хуже», «Л.М.Л.», «Поцелуи» and other recordings from the mid-2000s. Some of them were created after the Sedokova — Granovskaya — Brezhneva lineup had already ended, so it is inaccurate to describe Brezhneva’s entire four-year history with the group as belonging to a single «golden lineup» period.

Departure from VIA Gra

In summer 2007, it became known that Brezhneva was leaving VIA Gra. By that time, she had spent more than four years in the group and had worked through several lineup changes. After her departure, Albina Dzhanabaeva and Meseda Bagaudinova remained in the group.

Brezhneva did not immediately release a full-length solo album. Her first period after VIA Gra was devoted to television work, individual music releases and the development of an independent repertoire.

Beginning of her solo career: «Я не играю» and «Нирвана»

Her first notable solo release was «Я не играю», whose music video appeared in spring 2008. It was followed in the autumn by a second independent single, «Нирвана». These recordings marked the transition from VIA Gra’s group material to Brezhneva’s own solo pop repertoire.

During this period, Konstantin Meladze, the writer and producer behind a large part of VIA Gra’s material, continued to play an important role in her music. Their collaboration continued after Brezhneva left the group, creating a clear songwriting continuity between her group and solo discographies.

Television after VIA Gra

One of her first independent projects after leaving the group was the television game show «Магия десяти», which Brezhneva hosted in 2008. It was the Russian adaptation of the Power of 10 format. Around the same period, she appeared in entertainment television programs, and in 2009–2010 she regularly took part in the improvisational show «Южное Бутово».

Television did not replace her music career, but it helped Brezhneva establish herself as an independent media personality even before the release of her first solo album.

Film career: «Любовь в большом городе», «Ёлки» and «Джунгли»

Brezhneva’s first major role in a feature film was Katya in the romantic comedy «Любовь в большом городе», released in 2009. She returned to the role in «Любовь в большом городе 2» and «Любовь в большом городе 3».

In 2010 and 2011, Brezhneva appeared in «Ёлки» and «Ёлки 2», playing herself. In the 2012 comedy «Джунгли», she played Marina, while in «8 лучших свиданий» she played Masha. Later, she made episodic appearances in the series «Мажор» and took part in projects about Bender.

Acting always remained secondary to music in her career. Brezhneva regularly appeared in commercial films but never stopped releasing music in order to pursue acting as her primary profession.

«Любовь спасёт мир»

In April 2010, the song «Любовь спасёт мир» premiered. It gave its title to Brezhneva’s first solo album, released on November 22, 2010. The standard digital edition contained 11 tracks.

The album collected recordings from the first years of her solo career, including «Я не играю», «Нирвана» and other songs. During the same period, she also released a duet with Moldovan singer Dan Balan, «Лепестками слёз», which became one of Brezhneva’s best-known recordings of the early 2010s. Apple Music continues to list both «Лепестками слёз» and «Любовь спасёт мир» among the most popular tracks in her solo catalog.

The music on her first album was considerably calmer than VIA Gra’s stage-oriented pop sound. It was based mainly on melodic pop songs and ballads, although some material retained a dance-oriented rhythm.

«Реальная жизнь», «Хороший день» and «Доброе утро»

After her debut album, Brezhneva spent several years releasing music primarily as individual singles. Among the most notable recordings from this period were «Реальная жизнь», «Хороший день», «Доброе утро» and «Девочка моя».

This release model became typical of her solo career: several years could pass between full-length albums, while new songs and music videos continued to appear regularly.

VERVERA

Her second studio album, VERVERA, was released on April 28, 2015. It contained 12 tracks, including the already known «Реальная жизнь», «Хороший день», «Доброе утро», «Девочка моя», as well as «Мамочка» and other recordings.

The title VERVERA came from a form of her name that the singer used on social media. It was not a separate music project: the album was released as Vera Brezhneva’s second solo studio record.

Unlike her debut album, VERVERA brought together material created over several years. It is therefore more accurate to view it as the culmination of the first long phase of her solo career rather than as the product of one short recording period.

Singles of the second half of the 2010s

After VERVERA, the singer once again focused mainly on individual song releases. «Номер 1» appeared in 2016, followed by «Близкие люди» and «Наше лето» in 2017, and «Ты мой человек» in 2018. These tracks became part of her main digital catalog, but no third full-length Russian-language studio album followed during this period.

V. and collaboration with MONATIK

On June 11, 2020, Brezhneva released the six-track EP V.. It included «Просто люди», «Тихо», «Хорошие Новости», «Неадекват», a remake of «Хороших Новостей», and the collaboration «ВЕЧЕРиНОЧКА» with MONATIK.

The release featured a more contemporary electronic production style than her previous albums. Her collaboration with MONATIK also connected Brezhneva with a newer generation of the Ukrainian pop scene, which by the end of the 2010s had developed an aesthetic distinct from the mainstream pop model of the 2000s.

«ТИХО» and acoustic versions

In February 2021, the live album «ТИХО (Acoustic Live)» was released. Recorded in an acoustic format, it featured new versions of songs from different periods, including «Доброе утро», «Мамочка», «Любовь спасёт мир» and even «Бриллианты» from VIA Gra’s repertoire.

The release illustrates Brezhneva’s attitude toward the group’s catalog: after beginning her solo career, she did not distance herself from VIA Gra’s best-known songs and continued to include them in her own concert programs.

Charity work and UNAIDS

Brezhneva’s public and charitable activity began long before 2022. In November 2014, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS appointed her UNAIDS Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Her main areas of work included HIV prevention awareness, support for women and children affected by the epidemic, combating discrimination and promoting testing.

In the following years, Brezhneva took part in UNAIDS awareness campaigns and met with people living with HIV, medical professionals and representatives of civil society organizations. As of 2026, the official UNAIDS website continues to list her among the organization’s goodwill ambassadors.

2022 and the change in her musical activity

Following the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Brezhneva publicly supported Ukraine and ended her previous activity on the Russian market. In March, she said that she was volunteering at a humanitarian aid center for Ukrainians in Italy. Initial media reports claimed that she was volunteering in Poland, but Brezhneva herself stated that she was in Italy.

In 2022, she released the Ukrainian-language song «Вишиванка», followed by «Такі ми люди». These recordings marked the beginning of a new catalog that is now collected on streaming platforms under the name VIRA.

The transition did not involve removing her previous discography. Vera Brezhneva’s Russian-language catalog remained available on digital platforms, while older solo songs and VIA Gra material continued to appear in her concert programs outside Russia.

«Дякую»

On October 6, 2023, Brezhneva released the EP «Дякую» under the name VIRA — her first release built entirely around Ukrainian-language material. The EP consists of six tracks. Brezhneva co-wrote part of the material.

The release included the title track «Дякую», «Ніч мине», «Голос» with Pylyp Koliadenko and other songs. In interviews accompanying the release, the singer directly connected the material with events of the previous year and a half — the war, her divorce and changes in her personal life.

In November 2023, Brezhneva performed in Kyiv for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war, singing «Дякую».

VERA or VIRA?

After 2022, two versions of the singer’s new name appeared in publications — VERA and VIRA. Materials accompanying «Дякую» in 2023 frequently used VERA. In the current Apple Music catalog and publications about new releases from 2024–2026, the spelling VIRA is used.

At the same time, the claim that the artist completely «abandoned the name Vera Brezhneva» does not reflect her current activity. Her official website continues to present itself as Vera Brezhneva’s website, while her 2026 concert tour is promoted under the name Vera Brezhneva / Віра Брежнєва and includes both solo material and VIA Gra hits.

VIRA is therefore more accurately described as the current name of her new Ukrainian-language music project, existing in parallel with the long-established stage brand Vera Brezhneva.

«Зупини», «Все мине» and «ТИ»

In 2024, the VIRA catalog expanded with the singles «Зупини» and «Все мине». The latter was released on November 22, 2024. In January 2025, the single «ТИ» followed.

These releases continued the direction established by «Дякую» without attempting to translate or re-record older Russian-language songs in Ukrainian. The new material was released as a separate catalog, while previous recordings remained available in their original form.

«Красива» and the «Сяйво» project

In June 2026, VIRA released the song «Красива», continuing the development of her Ukrainian-language repertoire. During the same period, the full-length album «Сяйво» was announced, with Brezhneva participating as a co-writer on most of its songs.

Several tracks from the forthcoming album were presented during the pre-release period, including «Красива» and «Моє Сонечко». «Сяйво» became the next major stage of the VIRA project after the «Дякую» EP and a series of standalone Ukrainian-language singles.

Concert activity

Alongside the release of new music, Brezhneva continued performing outside Russia. Her concert programs combine songs from her solo period, new VIRA material and well-known tracks from the repertoire of VIA Gra.

Her 2026 concert schedule included performances in countries across Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Israel. The stage name Vera Brezhneva continued to appear on concert posters alongside the development of the VIRA project.

As a result, two connected directions coexist in her work during the 2020s: new, predominantly Ukrainian-language recordings under the name VIRA, and a concert program spanning different periods of her career — from VIA Gra to her more recent solo songs.

Musical style

Vera Brezhneva’s music belongs primarily to pop. During her time with VIA Gra, the foundation was the characteristic pop songwriting associated with Konstantin Meladze’s production style, incorporating elements of dance music, R&B and pop balladry.

Her solo discography shifted toward a calmer pop sound. «Любовь спасёт мир», «Реальная жизнь», «Девочка моя», «Мамочка» and «Близкие люди» are built primarily around melody and lyrics, while «Номер 1», «ВЕЧЕРиНОЧКА» and part of the V. material place greater emphasis on dance rhythms and electronic production.

The Ukrainian-language VIRA catalog does not represent a separate genre. «Дякую», «Зупини», «Все мине» and later recordings remain contemporary pop music, but differ through a new circle of songwriters and Brezhneva’s greater involvement in writing the material herself.

Personal life

Vera Brezhneva has two daughters. Her elder daughter, Sonia, was born on March 30, 2001. Her father is Vitalii Voichenko, with whom Brezhneva was in a relationship before becoming widely known.

In 2006, the singer married Ukrainian businessman Mykhailo Kiperman. Their daughter Sarah was born in December 2009. In 2012, Brezhneva announced that they had divorced.

In October 2015, she married composer and producer Konstantin Meladze. The ceremony took place in Italy. Their professional collaboration had begun much earlier: Meladze was VIA Gra’s musical director and principal songwriter, and later wrote and produced a substantial part of Brezhneva’s solo repertoire.

In October 2023, the singer officially confirmed her divorce from Meladze, mentioning it during the presentation of the «Дякую» EP.

Following the divorce, the press repeatedly published reports about the singer’s new relationships. Since Brezhneva has not publicly identified a new permanent partner or announced a new marriage, such reports should not be included in her biography as established fact.

Vera Brezhneva in the history of VIA Gra and solo pop music

Vera Brezhneva first became widely known through VIA Gra, but her time in the group should not be reduced solely to the famous trio with Anna Sedokova and Nadezhda Granovskaya. Over four and a half years, she worked in several different lineups and remained in the group longer than most members from the first half of the 2000s.

After leaving the group, Brezhneva did not attempt to reproduce VIA Gra in a solo format. Her own repertoire adopted a less provocative stage image and was built more strongly around melodic pop. At the same time, her continued collaboration with Konstantin Meladze created a songwriting connection between the two phases of her career.

After 2022, this model changed again. New Ukrainian-language material appeared, Brezhneva became more actively involved in songwriting, and the name VIRA began to be used for the contemporary part of her discography. At the same time, she did not reject her musical past: her official 2026 tour still includes solo hits and songs from VIA Gra’s repertoire.

Vera Brezhneva’s career is therefore best divided into at least three periods: VIA Gra from 2003 to 2007, Vera Brezhneva’s Russian-language solo career beginning in 2008, and the VIRA catalog that developed after 2022. These stages differ in language, songwriting teams and musical context, but all belong to one continuing professional biography.
