Natalia Mogilevskaya is a Ukrainian singer, songwriter, actress, television presenter and music producer, and one of the most prominent figures in Ukrainian popular music of the late 1990s and 2000s. Over three decades on stage, she has progressed from a young performer and theatre actress to a People’s Artist of Ukraine, a mentor on television talent shows and the head of her own educational and production projects. Her best-known songs include “Місяць,” “Я весна,” “Полюби меня такой,” “Відірватись від землі,” “Ти мені не даєш,” “Відправила message,” “Этот танец,” “Я танцевала” and “Покохала.”
The artist’s real surname is Mogila. She was born in Kyiv on August 2, 1975. The official decree granting her an honorary title lists both versions of her surname: Mogila and Mogilevskaya.
Childhood and first steps on stage
Natalia grew up in Kyiv and attended Secondary School No. 195 in the Berezniaky neighbourhood. After completing the ninth grade, she enrolled at the Kyiv College of Variety and Circus Arts, where she received professional training in pop vocals and stage performance. The singer later also studied at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
Before beginning her solo career, Mogilevskaya worked with several theatre companies. She performed at the Ukrainian Folklore Theatre, the Kyiv Variety Theatre, the Kyiv House of Actors and the Jewish theatre Stern. Her theatrical experience had a noticeable influence on her later career: even in pop music, the singer always paid considerable attention to the dramatic structure of a performance, acting, costumes, dance and visual imagery.
The beginning of her solo career
Natalia Mogilevskaya’s solo career began in 1995. During this period, she collaborated with composer and producer Alexander Yagolnik. The young singer gained recognition with the songs “Девчонка с волосами цвета лилий,” “Подснежник” and “Иерусалим,” which combined traditional popular melodies with a more contemporary mid-1990s pop sound. Biographical sources also connect the beginning of her career with her success at the Slavianski Bazaar festival.
Her debut album, “Ла-ла-ла,” appeared in 1997. It was followed by the albums “Подснежник” and “Только я.” It was at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s that Mogilevskaya’s recognisable style took shape: emotional pop music in which dance tracks existed alongside lyrical ballads.
One of the most important works of this period was the song “Місяць.” It became one of the singer’s signature songs and continues to appear in her concert programmes decades later. “Только я,” “Я весна,” “Больше никогда,” “Я не такая” and her duet with Alexander Ponomaryov, “Ти моя,” also gained considerable popularity.
“Не такая” and the transformation into a pop star
The album “Не такая,” released in the early 2000s, marked Mogilevskaya’s transition towards a more mature and independent image. While romantic popular music dominated her early work, her songs now displayed greater confidence, irony and an emphasised sense of female independence.
The album’s title became a kind of formula for the singer’s public image. Mogilevskaya portrayed a heroine who refused to conform to other people’s expectations while retaining her emotional nature and need for love. This combination of strength and vulnerability would repeatedly return in her later work.
During this period, the singer worked actively with Ukrainian directors and songwriters. Notable compositions included “Плачь,” “Лимоновый фонарь” and “Полюби меня такой.” Her music videos helped secure her status not only as a radio singer but also as a fully established television star.
“Шанс” and her creative partnership with Kuzma Skryabin
Television became an important part of Natalia Mogilevskaya’s biography. Beginning in 2003, she co-hosted the musical talent show “Шанс” with Andriy Kuzmenko, better known as Kuzma Skryabin.
The programme became one of the first truly mainstream Ukrainian television projects built around the search for new performers. Mogilevskaya and Kuzma not only introduced the contestants but also helped them work on their repertoire, style and stage behaviour. Their on-screen partnership was based on contrast: Kuzma’s direct humour was combined with Mogilevskaya’s professional demands and emotionality.
In 2005, the artists recorded the song “Ти мені не даєш,” which became one of the most recognisable Ukrainian pop duets of the mid-2000s. After Kuzma’s death in 2015, Mogilevskaya repeatedly dedicated concert performances to him and released the composition Personal Jesus, connected with the memory of her friend.
“Відправила message” and “Этот танец”
In the mid-2000s, Mogilevskaya updated her musical sound, making it more electronic and dance-oriented. In 2006, she released the album “Відправила Message” and its title song, which incorporated elements of online messaging language. For the Ukrainian pop scene of that period, the subject sounded contemporary and accurately reflected the rapidly changing culture of communication.
The songs “Відправила message,” “Він не сказав ні слова,” “Вільний птах” and “Відірватись від землі” strengthened Mogilevskaya’s reputation as a singer capable of adapting her music to new trends without completely abandoning traditional popular melodies.
In 2007, she released the album “Этот танец.” By that time, dance had become one of the most important elements of her stage language, largely due to her participation in the television project “Dancing with the Stars.”
“Dancing with the Stars”
In 2006, Natalia Mogilevskaya competed in the first season of the Ukrainian version of “Dancing with the Stars,” partnered with choreographer Vlad Yama. The pair reached the final and finished in second place. The project significantly expanded the singer’s audience, while Vlad Yama became one of the most recognisable figures in Ukrainian choreography thanks to his participation in the show.
Mogilevskaya and Yama later returned to the dance floor together and participated in concert programmes. Their partnership became so popular that for many years it was regarded as one of the symbols of the project’s early seasons.
In 2017, the singer returned to the relaunched “Dancing with the Stars.” Her partner was Ihor Kuzmenko. This time, Mogilevskaya won the competition, presenting the audience with a story of personal and physical transformation. At the same time, she released the song “Я танцевала,” directly connected with her return to the dance floor.
Her victory in 2017 became an important stage in her career. It reminded a younger audience of the singer and demonstrated that an artist who had become famous in the 1990s could work successfully within contemporary television and digital culture.
People’s Artist of Ukraine
In December 2004, Natalia Mogilevskaya was awarded the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine. The presidential decree recognised her personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian song and her high level of performance skill.
By that time, the singer was already one of the leading representatives of Ukrainian pop music. Her repertoire combined Ukrainian- and Russian-language songs, while her concert work appealed to several generations of listeners.
Production work and “Star Factory”
Natalia Mogilevskaya became one of the first Ukrainian pop singers of her generation to move from managing her own career to working systematically with emerging artists.
In 2008, she served as the music producer of the second season of the Ukrainian “Star Factory.” The project launched or helped develop the careers of Max Barskih, Volodymyr Dantes, Vadym Oliinyk, Vlad Darwin, Boris April, Regina Todorenko and other contestants. Dantes and Oliinyk won the season and subsequently performed as the duo “DiO.filmy.” The group Real O was formed from female contestants on the project.
To work with young musicians, Mogilevskaya developed the production centre Talant Group. At different times, Real O, “DiO.filmy,” Max Barskih, Boris April and other performers were associated with the company.
Mogilevskaya’s production approach was based on more than selecting songs. Considerable attention was given to stage image, movement, television presentation, music videos and the artist’s ability to connect with a mass audience.
Television and mentoring
In addition to “Шанс” and “Star Factory,” Mogilevskaya participated in many Ukrainian entertainment projects. She worked as a judge and mentor on music and dance shows, including “The Voice Kids,” “Maidan’s,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “Star Factory: Superfinal.”
On “The Voice Kids,” the singer occupied a coaching chair and worked with young vocalists. This experience continued through her own educational project, the Natalia Mogilevskaya Talent School, which focused on developing children’s vocal, dance and acting skills. In 2019, she released the Ukrainian-language composition “Покохала,” which became one of Mogilevskaya’s most notable later hits. During this period, she also presented the concert programme “Весна” and embarked on a nationwide Ukrainian tour.
The artist’s later songs differ from her work of the 1990s through their calmer delivery. They contain less demonstrative showmanship and more personal intonation, reflections on love, self-acceptance, age and emotional maturity.
Work after the beginning of the full-scale war
After the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Mogilevskaya continued living and working in Ukraine. Her repertoire expanded to include songs dedicated to the war, home and resistance, among them “Я кажу Ні, жахливій цій війні!”, “Ми будемо стояти,” “Я вдома” and “Діва Марія.”
The wartime period significantly changed the content of her work. While relationships and personal transformation had previously been central themes, greater emphasis was now placed on homeland, family safety, support for Ukrainians and preserving inner resilience.
Motherhood and family
At the beginning of 2024, Natalia Mogilevskaya publicly revealed that she had become the mother of two adopted daughters, Sofia and Michelle. The girls are biological sisters, and the adoption process began during the full-scale war. The artist kept the news private for a long time, explaining that she needed to protect the children and give them time to adjust to their new life.
At the same time, the singer introduced her partner, a man named Valentin. In later interviews, she said that motherhood had changed her lifestyle, priorities and attitude towards work. Family also became a more visible subject in her public appearances.
Anniversary show and work in 2025–2026
For her 50th birthday, Mogilevskaya prepared the large-scale concert programme Version 5.0. In autumn 2025, she presented it at the Ukraine Palace in Kyiv. The programme included major songs from different periods, dance productions and duets with representatives of a new generation of the Ukrainian music scene. Following the first performances, additional concerts were announced for 2026.
In May 2026, the singer released the self-written composition “Рута.” Her current catalogue also includes new songs and updated versions of well-known hits, including a collaborative reworking of “Відправила message” with Lely45. The latter was nominated for a YUNA award in the category for a new version of a well-known song.
Mogilevskaya’s anniversary stage therefore did not become merely a retrospective. The artist continued to release new material and adapt her own musical legacy to the contemporary Ukrainian music scene.
