MOЗGI (formerly MOZGI) is a Ukrainian music group formed in 2014 by producer, rapper and songwriter Potap (Oleksii Potapenko). The core lineup consisted of Potap, POSITIFF (Oleksii Zavhorodnii) and Dyadya Vadya (Vadym Fedorov), while the live lineup also included DJ Bloodless, Dr.Ed and RusOne.
MOЗGI’s music combined hip-hop, electronic dance music, pop, electro house and selected ethnic elements. The members jokingly described their own style as “electroshawarma”, meaning a mixture of heavy Western rhythms, club beats and Eastern musical motifs.
During its active years, the group released the albums «Электрошаурма», Bar, «На белом», Middle Finger and kyivstyle, while its best-known songs include «Аябо», «Ножомпо», «Хлам», «Вертолёт», «Вылюби», «Полицаи», «Бармен», «Атятя», «Влажный Пляжный Движ», «Полюбэ», «999», Chica Bamboni and «Ой, Мамо!».
The creation of MOЗGI
The idea for a new male project emerged within Potap’s circle not as a carefully pre-planned pop concept, but directly during studio work.
One of the starting points was the song «Ножомпо». Potap originally wrote it during his solo project Arkadiy Laykin, but the composition did not fit that format. POSITIFF, Dyadya Vadya and other future MOЗGI members then became involved in the recording.
POSITIFF later recalled that «Ножомпо» could effectively be considered the beginning of the group: he participated in creating the music, Dyadya Vadya recorded the vocal part, and dancers from the team also joined the work.
Instead of leaving it as another one-off studio experiment, the musicians decided to develop the idea into an independent group.
«Аябо» and the official launch
The project’s first widely presented single was «Аябо», released in 2014.
At the initial stage, the creators deliberately kept the new group’s lineup secret. In September 2014, together with the premiere of the music video, the public learned that the central members of MOЗGI were Potap, POSITIFF and Dyadya Vadya.
This lineup brought together musicians who already had experience in other projects. By that time, Potap was known as a member of the duo «Potap and Nastya», as well as a producer and songwriter behind numerous pop hits. POSITIFF was simultaneously a member of the group «Vremya i Steklo», while Dyadya Vadya had many years of vocal and studio experience.
MOЗGI allowed them to use harder, more ironic and experimental material that did not fit the sound of their main pop projects.
MOЗGI lineup
Over time, MOЗGI became established as a six-member group:
- Potap (Oleksii Potapenko) — vocals, rap, lyrics, production;
- POSITIFF (Oleksii Zavhorodnii) — vocals, music, arrangements;
- Dyadya Vadya (Vadym Fedorov) — vocals;
- DJ Bloodless (Andrii Bezkrovnyi) — DJ, songwriter and participant in music production;
- Dr.Ed (Eduard Kamenev) — dancer and member of the stage lineup;
- RusOne (Ruslan Storozhyk) — dancer and member of the stage lineup.
This structure distinguished MOЗGI from a conventional pop group with a singer and accompanying dancers. The dance team, DJ and lead performers were all part of a unified stage image, while the concerts were built as a continuous dynamic show.
“Electroshawarma” and the musical concept
The members themselves came up with the term “electroshawarma” to describe their music.
The name reflected the deliberately eclectic nature of the project. A single composition could combine hip-hop, electro house, a pop chorus, powerful electronic rhythms, a folk intonation or an instrumental sound associated with Eastern music.
Humor and absurdity were no less important to MOЗGI. The lyrics often relied on colloquial expressions, deliberately strange words, repeated phrases and provocative imagery. Unlike traditional hip-hop, the group rarely aimed for serious social storytelling: its main themes were parties, relationships, male camaraderie, irony and club life.
BIKINI ALBUM
The group’s early material was collected on BIKINI ALBUM, which is listed in digital catalogs as a 2014 EP.
It included MOЗGI’s first songs, among them «Аябо», «Ножомпо» and «Хлам».
These recordings shaped the group’s original image — an aggressive electronic foundation, male vocals, rap and a deliberately grotesque presentation.
«Электрошаурма»
In 2015, MOЗGI released its first full-length album, «Электрошаурма».
It combined early songs with new material. The digital version includes «Висимвсе», «Япопопо», «ХалаХала», «Аябо», «Вылюби», «Вертолёт» and other compositions, while expanded editions contained additional songs and skits.
Among the most notable works of the period were «Хлам», «Ножомпо», «Вылюби», «Вертолёт» and «Хит моего лета».
The album firmly established the term “electroshawarma” not only as a joke among the members, but also as a description of the group’s first creative phase.
Bar
The album Bar was released in 2016.
It contains nine tracks. Among the best known are «Полицаи», «Бармен», «В MOZGI баре», «Доктор от Бога» and «Любовь».
The material continued the group’s club-oriented concept but became noticeably more compact than the debut album. Electronic rhythms, rap and humorous male lyrics remained at its core.
Amor with Michelle Andrade
One notable collaboration was Michelle Andrade’s song Amor featuring MOЗGI.
The project combined the group’s characteristic electronic approach with Latin American motifs associated with Andrade’s musical image.
In 2017, Michelle Andrade feat. MOЗGI won the M1 Music Awards in the “Project of the Year” category for Amor.
A year earlier, MOЗGI itself had won in the same category.
«На белом»
The album «На белом» was released on August 17, 2017.
The digital version contains 13 tracks. One of its best-known songs was «Атятя», for which a separate music video was produced.
By this period, MOЗGI’s stage aesthetics had become more varied. While the original signature look consisted mainly of black clothing, the members increasingly used tracksuits, hockey jerseys, bright colors, oversized graphics and stylized stage outfits.
The visual component remained just as important as the music itself: videos and concert productions were conceived from the outset as extensions of the absurd and exaggerated world of the songs.
«Влажный Пляжный Движ» and «Полюбэ»
In 2018, the group released several standalone singles, with «Влажный Пляжный Движ» and «Полюбэ» among the most notable.
The first developed MOЗGI’s summer club aesthetic, while the second continued its characteristic combination of electronic rhythm, rap and deliberately exaggerated lyrical imagery.
During the same period, the group performed extensively at major Ukrainian festivals and developed the concert program «Вынос мозга».
«Промінь»
The Ukrainian-language composition «Промінь», connected with the film «Скажене весілля», occupies a separate place in the group’s catalog.
The recording was created by a combined lineup of MOZGI Entertainment artists and presented MOЗGI in a different context — not as an exclusively Russian-language club group, but as part of a broader Ukrainian production team.
Middle Finger
The album Middle Finger was released on October 18, 2019.
It contains 16 tracks and includes such works as «Средний Палец», Digitalization and «Девчонка».
The Middle Finger period coincided with the group’s growing interest in contemporary digital imagery, internet culture and short visually oriented formats.
In 2019, the standalone single 999 was also released.
kyivstyle
MOЗGI’s fifth album, kyivstyle, was released on December 4, 2020.
The record contains 15 tracks and became the group’s final full-length release.
This period includes Chica Bamboni, No Hugs No Kisses, «Покажу тебе Magic» and other works.
With the title kyivstyle, the group emphasized its connection to the Kyiv music and production scene in which Potap and his team had developed their projects throughout the previous decade.
MOЗGI’s final songs
After kyivstyle, the group continued releasing standalone singles.
In 2021, «Ой, Мамо!», «Козацький mix» and ZAVTRA were released.
«Ой, Мамо!» was particularly indicative of the group’s later direction. POSITIFF said that the song had originally been created in Ukrainian and was built around a semi-folk motif and a distinctive wind-instrument sample.
ZAVTRA, released in November 2021, became MOЗGI’s final new standalone single in the group’s current catalog before its regular activities ceased.
MOZGI Entertainment
The history of the group is closely connected with the production company MOZGI Entertainment, founded by Potap and Iryna Horova in 2009.
At different times, the company worked with «Potap and Nastya», «Vremya i Steklo», MOЗGI, Michelle Andrade and other artists.
Iryna Horova was primarily responsible for the company’s management and business operations, while Potap was associated with its creative and production direction.
After the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, their professional paths diverged. In 2023, MOZGI Entertainment and MOZGI Group were relaunched under the new name Pomitni. Horova became the sole owner and CEO of the renewed music business.
The company’s rebranding did not represent a comeback or renaming of the musical group MOЗGI itself — it concerned the former production structure.
Why MOZGI changed the spelling of its name
Originally, the name of the project and the related company was written in Latin letters as MOZGI.
In March 2022, after the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, MOZGI Group announced that it would stop using the Latin letter Z in its branded spelling. The reason was the use of the Z symbol by Russian forces and Russian military propaganda.
The Latin Z was replaced with the Ukrainian Cyrillic letter З, and the name was subsequently written as MOЗGI.
The full-scale war and the end of the group’s activities
Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 effectively brought MOЗGI’s active period to an end.
Some members continued taking part in charity performances. POSITIFF said that for some time the musicians performed without Potap and could also include Ukrainian-language material in their sets.
However, the group was unable to continue full-scale activities without one of its founders.
In 2024, POSITIFF directly referred to MOЗGI as a disbanded group. According to him, the project required the willingness of all members to continue, while performances without Potap were perceived as an incomplete version of the group.
After that, POSITIFF focused on his solo career, while Potap continued separate music and production projects outside Ukraine.
Therefore, it is most accurate to say that after 2022 MOЗGI ceased regular activities, and by 2024 one of its key members had publicly confirmed the group’s effective breakup.
Musical style
MOЗGI was created as a project that did not need to remain within a single genre.
The group’s music was based on:
- hip-hop and rap;
- electronic dance music;
- electro house;
- pop melodies;
- heavy synthesizer parts;
- Eastern and folk intonations;
- humorous and absurdist lyrics.
A significant part of the material was created with live performance in mind. As a result, the arrangements were built around powerful rhythmic foundations, repeated vocal phrases and elements designed to provoke an immediate response from large audiences.
Potap was primarily responsible for the concept and lyrics, POSITIFF participated in creating the music and arrangements, DJ Bloodless contributed to musical and songwriting work, while Dyadya Vadya’s vocals added a more melodic contrast to the songs.
Visual image and concerts
The stage component was always an important part of MOЗGI.
During the early period, the members mainly performed in black clothing and sunglasses, creating the image of a closed male team. Later, the costumes became much brighter: the group used sportswear, hockey jerseys, unusual headwear and deliberately exaggerated streetwear.
Dr.Ed and RusOne were responsible for the dance component, which meant that choreography was integrated directly into the concert rather than existing merely as separate accompaniment for the vocalists.
The group also actively used video graphics, lighting, stage decorations and humorous elements.

MOЗGI’s place in Ukrainian pop music
MOЗGI became one of the most characteristic projects of Ukraine’s entertainment-oriented pop scene in the second half of the 2010s. The group emerged within Potap’s already established team, but developed its own musical and visual language that differed noticeably from «Vremya i Steklo» and the duo «Potap and Nastya».
The combination of hip-hop, electronic dance music, humor, a male ensemble and large-scale concert production allowed the group to create a format that its members jokingly described as “electroshawarma.”
Over seven years of active studio history, MOЗGI progressed from «Аябо» and «Ножомпо» to five full-length digital albums, major festival shows and later experiments with the Ukrainian language.
After the beginning of the full-scale war, the group’s story effectively came to an end: the members focused on their own individual directions, while the production company associated with the MOZGI name was later transformed into Pomitni. Today, MOЗGI is therefore more accurately viewed not as an active project releasing new hits, but as one of the notable Ukrainian dance-pop groups of its period.
