Sak Noel (real name — Isaac Mahmood Noell; born April 12, 1983, in La Cellera de Ter, Girona Province, Catalonia) is a Spanish DJ, music producer, songwriter and music video director. He gained international recognition in 2011 with the single «Loca People (What the F**k!)», which topped the charts in several European countries, including the United Kingdom.
At different stages of his career, Sak Noel has worked with house, electro house, club-oriented electronic music, Latin rhythms, trap and elements of reggaeton. His best-known recordings include «Loca People», «Paso (The Nini Anthem)», «No Boyfriend», «Trumpets» with Salvi and Sean Paul, and «Que Rica (Tócame)» with Pitbull and Salvi.
Early years
Isaac Mahmood Noell grew up in Catalonia and became interested in electronic music while still a teenager. His first professional steps were connected not only with producing his own tracks but also with the club industry — organizing parties and working with the local electronic scene.
In 2003, he founded Moguda — a music and entertainment project focused on club events and production. Over time, Moguda developed its own label and festival division. In 2010, the Moguda Dance Festival was held in Sils, Catalonia.
Loca People
Sak Noel’s international breakthrough came in 2011 with the release of «Loca People», also known as «Loca People (What the F**k!)» and «Loca People (La Gente Está Muy Loca)».
The recording was built around a hard club rhythm and a short spoken vocal phrase. The female voice belongs to Esthera Sarita. Sak Noel wrote and produced the track and also directed the music video himself.
The song topped the national charts in several European countries, including Spain, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Poland. In the autumn of 2011, «Loca People» reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and remained at the top for one week.
For a Spanish electronic musician, this was a rare international achievement: before Sak Noel, only a small number of artists from Spain had reached number one on the main British singles chart.
Crazy People and the Latin Grammy
Following the success of «Loca People», a related version titled «Crazy People» was recorded with rappers Sensato and Pitbull.
In 2012, «Crazy People» was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Urban Song category. The nomination remains one of the most notable professional distinctions of Sak Noel’s career.
Paso and the continuation of his career
His next major solo release was «Paso (The Nini Anthem)», recorded in 2011 and released internationally in late 2011 and early 2012.
The track continued the direction established by «Loca People»: a minimalist club beat, a repeated vocal refrain and a deliberately provocative presentation. However, it did not match the scale of the commercial success achieved by his first major hit.
In the following years, Sak Noel focused on individual singles rather than full-length albums. Recordings from the first half of the 2010s include «I Am the Law» and «No Boyfriend», created with Cuban-American singer Mayra Veronica.
Trumpets with Sean Paul
One of Sak Noel’s best-known later releases was the single «Trumpets», recorded with Spanish producer Salvi and Jamaican artist Sean Paul.
The song was released in 2016 on Barnaton Records and later received wider international distribution with the involvement of Mad Decent. On «Trumpets», an electronic club foundation was combined with dancehall and Sean Paul’s Caribbean vocal style.
Sak Noel and Salvi continued working together after this release.
Barnaton
In the mid-2010s, Sak Noel began developing his own label, Barnaton. The name is formed from the words Barcelona and reggaeton.
The project focused on combining electronic club music with Latin American genres and supporting young producers. Barnaton released both Sak Noel’s own work and recordings by other artists.
This direction later became one of the central strands of his music: the producer increasingly combined house and EDM with reggaeton, Latin percussion, dancehall and trap.
Collaboration with Pitbull
In 2020, Pitbull, Sak Noel and Salvi released the collaborative single «Que Rica (Tócame)». The track developed the song «Tócame», previously created by Sak Noel and Salvi.
An official music video was produced for the song. The release continued Sak Noel’s later-period approach of blending English- and Spanish-language club music.
