Sabrina Carpenter, full name Sabrina AnnLynn Carpenter (born May 11, 1999, Quakertown, Pennsylvania, USA), is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She first gained widespread recognition through her role as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, while steadily developing her own music catalog alongside her acting career.
Carpenter’s first four studio albums were released through Hollywood Records. After moving to Island Records, her music became noticeably more personal and distinctive as a songwriter: emails i can’t send marked a new stage in 2022, while Short n’ Sweet in 2024 brought her first No. 1 album in the United States, her first Grammy Awards and the biggest hits of her career — Espresso, Please Please Please and Taste. The following album, Man’s Best Friend, also topped the Billboard 200.
Childhood and early musical training
Sabrina Carpenter was born in Pennsylvania to Elizabeth and David Carpenter and grew up in East Greenville. She is the youngest of four sisters. Her mother danced when she was younger, while her father played in an amateur band and later built a home studio for his daughter.
Her interest in performing appeared very early. According to biographical materials from Hollywood Records, Sabrina began singing at around the age of two, started dancing at three and began taking vocal lessons at six. As a child, she performed Happy Birthday for customers at a local restaurant, which she later described as her first real audience.
Carpenter then began regularly posting covers on YouTube. Her repertoire included songs by Adele, Christina Aguilera, Guns N’ Roses, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and other performers known for distinctive vocal styles.
One of her first notable experiences was the The Next Miley Cyrus Project competition, organized around Miley Cyrus. Carpenter finished third among more than ten thousand participants. The experience helped her build her first consistent online audience and continue professional vocal training.
Beginning of her acting career
Before Disney, Carpenter appeared in the series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and received a recurring role in the comedy The Goodwin Games.
The main television project of her early career was Girl Meets World, launched by Disney Channel in 2014 as a continuation of Boy Meets World. Carpenter played Maya Hart, the best friend of main character Riley Matthews. The series ran until 2017 and gave the actress an international teenage audience.
After the project ended, she gradually expanded her filmography. Among her most notable works are The Hate U Give, The Short History of the Long Road, Tall Girl, Work It and Emergency. Carpenter also served as one of the executive producers of Work It.
Hollywood Records and the first music releases
Carpenter’s professional music career began at the same time as her television success. In 2014, Hollywood Records released the EP Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying. Its acoustic pop and folk-pop matched both the singer’s age and the Disney audience, although even then she was already trying to take part in writing the material.
Her first full-length album, Eyes Wide Open, was released in 2015. Its main songs included We’ll Be the Stars, Eyes Wide Open, The Middle of Starting Over and the previously released Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying.

EVOLution
The second studio album, EVOLution, was released in 2016 and moved noticeably away from the predominantly acoustic sound of her debut. The arrangements featured more synthesizers, electronic rhythms and contemporary pop production.
The album’s best-known song became Thumbs. It also included On Purpose, All We Have Is Love, Mirage, Don’t Want It Back, Shadows and Run and Hide.
EVOLution did not bring Carpenter a major chart breakthrough, but it established music as an independent part of her career rather than an extension of her work on Disney Channel.
Singular: Act I and Act II
The next stage was divided between two albums. Singular: Act I was released in 2018 and showed a more confident approach to dance-pop and R&B. Carpenter co-wrote all eight songs.
Among the most notable tracks were Almost Love, Paris, Sue Me, Mona Lisa and Bad Time. Producers involved in the recording included Stargate, Jason Evigan, Oak Felder and Johan Carlsson.
Singular: Act II followed in 2019. Songs such as Pushing 20, Exhale, In My Bed and Looking at Me contained more personal observations and considerably less of the neutral teenage lyricism characteristic of her early period.
Both parts of Singular became Carpenter’s final studio albums on Hollywood Records.
Island Records and Skin
In 2021, Sabrina Carpenter signed with Island Records. The first notable release of the new period was the song Skin.
The label change coincided with a shift in her songwriting approach. Carpenter began writing in a more conversational style, using details from personal experience more often and paying greater attention to lines that could work simultaneously as emotional statements and jokes.
Skin was followed by Skinny Dipping and Fast Times, preparing the way for her fifth studio album.

emails i can’t send was released on July 15, 2022. Carpenter participated in writing every song on the record and, for the first time, gained significantly greater control over how her personal stories were transformed into music.
The album combines pop, R&B, acoustic ballads and more minimalist studio production. It includes Vicious, Read your Mind, Tornado Warnings, because i liked a boy, Nonsense, Fast Times, skinny dipping, Bad for Business and decode.
The album reached No. 23 on the Billboard 200, Carpenter’s best result at the time.
because i liked a boy and Nonsense
In because i liked a boy, the singer examines a situation in which an ordinary personal relationship becomes a subject of mass discussion and begins to affect a person’s public image. The song showed how much more direct her lyrics had become compared with her Hollywood Records period.
Nonsense had an even greater influence on the next stage of her career. The song combined light R&B-pop with conversational delivery and deliberately playful lyrics.
In concert, Carpenter began changing the final lines of the song every night, adding references to the city, local jokes and double entendres. These improvised endings regularly spread across social media and gradually became one of the most recognizable elements of her live show.
Feather and The Eras Tour
In March 2023, the expanded edition emails i can’t send fwd: was released. Its biggest new single was Feather, written by Carpenter with Amy Allen and John Ryan.
The song reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the singer’s first single to top the US Pop Airplay chart. Its light disco-pop and ironic lyrics continued the direction established by Nonsense.
In 2023–2024, Carpenter opened for Taylor Swift during international dates of The Eras Tour in Latin America, Australia and Singapore. The stadium performances significantly expanded her audience immediately before the release of the biggest single of her career.
Espresso
Espresso was released on April 11, 2024, ahead of Carpenter’s first performance at Coachella.
The song was written with Amy Allen and Steph Jones and produced by Julian Bunetta. The arrangement is built around funk and disco rhythms, guitar and keyboard parts, and deliberately relaxed vocal delivery.
Instead of a traditional dramatic love song, Carpenter built the lyrics around confident remarks, conversational expressions and wordplay. The title is used as a metaphor for someone who keeps another person awake.
Espresso reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Carpenter’s first US Top 10 hit as a recording artist.
Please Please Please
The next single, Please Please Please, was written by Carpenter with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff.
Musically, the song combines contemporary pop with country and arranging techniques associated with American music of the 1970s. The lyrics revolve around the narrator’s fear not so much of being rejected as of being publicly embarrassed by her partner’s behavior.
Please Please Please became Sabrina Carpenter’s first single to top the Billboard Hot 100.
Short n’ Sweet
The sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, was released on August 23, 2024. Its production team included Jack Antonoff, Julian Bunetta, John Ryan and Ian Kirkpatrick, while Amy Allen once again became one of Carpenter’s main songwriting partners.
The album combines contemporary pop, disco, country-pop, R&B and soft rock. Its stylistic unity, however, is built primarily around Carpenter’s lyrics: romantic conflicts are regularly described through self-irony, wordplay and short conversational phrases.
Its main tracks include Taste, Please Please Please, Good Graces, Bed Chem, Espresso, Juno, Lie to Girls and Don’t Smile.
Short n’ Sweet debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 362,000 equivalent album units and spent a total of four weeks at the top of the chart.
Taste, Bed Chem and Juno
Taste debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the same time, Espresso and Please Please Please were also in the Top 5, making Carpenter the first solo artist whose first three Top 5 hits simultaneously occupied positions in the US chart’s Top 5.
Bed Chem strengthened the album’s R&B side and is built around a series of double entendres about physical attraction.
Juno developed its own live-performance tradition: during the Short n’ Sweet Tour, Carpenter changed her stage pose before one of the song’s lines. The device continued the model of the improvised Nonsense endings, but within a much larger production.
Short n’ Sweet Tour
The Short n’ Sweet Tour began in September 2024 and became Carpenter’s first arena tour as a headliner.
Its visual design drew on the aesthetics of classic American television, old Hollywood, comedy shows and theatrical pop productions. Her musical and acting experience finally came together here: songs were accompanied by comic interludes, choreography and small staged narratives.
First Grammy Awards
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Carpenter received her first Recording Academy nominations, appearing in six categories.
Short n’ Sweet was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, Espresso for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, and Please Please Please for Song of the Year. Carpenter herself was also nominated for Best New Artist.
She won two awards: Best Pop Solo Performance for Espresso and Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet.
Short n’ Sweet Deluxe
In February 2025, an expanded edition of Short n’ Sweet was released. One of its main additions was a new version of Please Please Please recorded with Dolly Parton.
The collaboration emphasized the country elements already present on the original album and became one of the bridges to Carpenter’s next studio project.
Manchild
On June 5, 2025, Carpenter released the single Manchild, launching a new album campaign. The song was written by Sabrina Carpenter, Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff; Carpenter and Antonoff also served as producers.
Musically, the track combines pop with country influences. Its lyrics are built around an ironic portrait of an emotionally immature partner.
Manchild debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Carpenter’s second US chart-topper after Please Please Please.
Man’s Best Friend
The seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, was released on August 29, 2025. The core creative team remained in place, with Jack Antonoff, Amy Allen and John Ryan among the most important co-writers and producers.
The album continued the combination of pop, disco, synthesizer-driven production and country, while making romantic satire an even more consistent part of the lyrics. The main track list included Manchild, Tears, My Man on Willpower, Sugar Talking, Nobody’s Son, Never Getting Laid, When Did You Get Hot?, Go Go Juice, House Tour and Goodbye.
Man’s Best Friend debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 366,000 equivalent album units. It became the biggest opening week of Carpenter’s career. All twelve main songs from the album simultaneously entered the Billboard Hot 100.
The album later received platinum certification in the United States.
Tears and House Tour
Tears debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song continues the lyrical model characteristic of this period: minimally acceptable behavior from a man is described by the narrator as an unexpectedly attractive achievement.
House Tour is built around the double meaning of the invitation to “see the house.” In 2026, the song received an official music video and a separate seven-inch vinyl single; the B-side featured the exclusive version Back Door (Fcukers Remix).
Collaboration with Taylor Swift
Carpenter’s connection with Taylor Swift, which began with her participation in The Eras Tour, later continued in the studio.
In 2025, Sabrina became the only featured artist on Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, recording vocals for its title track The Life of a Showgirl.
The song entered the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of Carpenter’s most notable collaborations outside her own discography.
Grammy 2026
Man’s Best Friend and Manchild brought Carpenter another six Grammy nominations.
Manchild was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video. The album received nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Carpenter did not receive any additional wins at the 2026 ceremony. After it, her official Recording Academy total stood at two wins from twelve nominations.
Coachella 2026 and Madonna
In 2026, Sabrina Carpenter returned to Coachella as one of the festival’s headliners. This came two years after her first appearance there during the release period of Espresso.
During the second festival weekend, Madonna appeared as a special guest. The artists performed Vogue and Like a Prayer and also premiered their collaborative song Bring Your Love.
The song was released as a standalone single in spring 2026 and was included on Madonna’s album Confessions II. In the official credits, it is listed as a joint recording by Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter.
Musical style
