Nora En Pure - Biography and discography, all albums and songs

Nora En Pure

Nora En Pure is the stage name of South African-Swiss DJ and music producer Daniela Di Lillo, previously known by the surname Niederer. She was born on 20 July 1990 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and grew up in Switzerland. Nora En Pure has become one of the most prominent figures in the contemporary melodic house scene, developing a distinctive sound at the intersection of deep house, melodic house, progressive house and organic electronic music.

Her music is easily recognisable by its piano lines, string and wind timbres, restrained rhythms, atmospheric synthesisers and sounds that evoke natural landscapes. Rather than making abrupt stylistic shifts, Nora En Pure has consistently developed the same core aesthetic throughout her career: melodic electronic music that can sound equally natural in a club, at a festival or during home listening.

South Africa, Switzerland and Classical Music

Daniela was born in Johannesburg to a South African mother and a Swiss father. While she was still an infant, the family moved to a small community in Switzerland. Her connection with South Africa nevertheless remained strong: family trips there, African landscapes and wildlife later became important sources of musical and visual inspiration. The artist herself has emphasised that she feels connected to both countries.

Music was part of her life long before she became interested in club culture. As a child, Daniela played piano and flute, listened to classical music as well as rock and other styles. At first, she found electronic dance music too repetitive and only developed a serious interest in it later.

The turning point came after she met people working in recording studios in Zurich. The possibility of constructing a track independently from electronic and acoustic elements fascinated her far more than club culture itself. Nora En Pure later explained that the freedom of electronic music allowed her to combine classical instruments, a sense of nature and house rhythms.

From Criminal Psychology to Electronic Music

Nora En Pure's professional career did not follow a predetermined path. Daniela studied a field related to criminal and forensic psychology, while initially producing electronic music alongside her studies. Only when her own recordings began receiving support and led to her first performances did music gradually become her main profession.

Her first releases under the Nora En Pure name appeared in 2009 on the Swiss labels Enormous Tunes and Tokenish. She also became associated with the Helvetic Nerds circle of producers linked to Zurich's electronic music scene. This period gave Daniela valuable studio experience and helped her gradually shape her own direction within deep house.

Her early catalogue included EPs and individual tracks such as Stockholm Tears, Velvet, Feel the Force, You Make Me Float and Saltwater. Even these early recordings already contained elements that would later define her style: clean melodies, relatively restrained rhythms and close attention to acoustic timbres.

Come With Me and the International Breakthrough

A decisive moment came with Come With Me, released in 2013 on Enormous Tunes. The track took Nora En Pure beyond the Swiss electronic scene and established her internationally. It received extensive DJ support, which was followed by new performance opportunities and touring offers.

Nora En Pure did not, however, build the rest of her career around replicating a single successful track. Her subsequent releases gradually expanded her musical palette. On the True EP in 2014, Into the Wild, Morning Dew and other works, the combination of house rhythms with piano, strings, wind instruments and atmospheric transitions became increasingly prominent.

Saltwater also gained particular recognition. In 2015, the artist released an updated version titled Saltwater (2015 Rework). For this reason, describing Saltwater as a “new 2015 hit” is inaccurate: the composition had already existed before then, while the new release was a reworking of earlier material.

Lake Arrowhead, Conquer Yosemite and Music as Landscape

An important milestone was the Lake Arrowhead EP, released on 9 May 2016. Both its title and musical character reflected the direction Nora En Pure was developing in the middle of the decade: rather than sounding like abstract club music, her compositions increasingly resembled musical sketches of specific places and natural environments.

That same year, she recorded a two-hour Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, providing further confirmation of her growing status on the international house scene. The artist's official biography identifies the mix as one of the key moments in her career development.

The theme of travel continued with Conquer Yosemite in 2017. The release included Diving with Whales, one of the tracks that most clearly demonstrates her desire to combine a club-oriented foundation with an almost cinematic atmosphere. The same year also brought Tears In Your Eyes, which became one of Nora En Pure's most recognisable vocal and melodic productions.

Sphinx, Polynesia and the Development of Her Own Sound

By the end of the 2010s, Nora En Pure no longer depended on a single major radio hit to sustain her international career. Her audience had developed around a consistent sequence of singles, EPs, festival appearances and extended DJ sets.

In 2018, she released Sphinx, Don't Look Back and Polynesia. The latter continued the nature-inspired direction of her work particularly vividly, combining melodic house with images of water, remote islands and open spaces. In 2019, she followed with We Found Love featuring Ashibah, Birthright, Heart Beating and the Homebound EP.

At the same time, Nora En Pure released official remixes for other artists. Her catalogue includes reinterpretations of music by Faithless, Above & Beyond, Eelke Kleijn, Sofi Tukker, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Klingande, Dirty Vegas and others.

Purified: From Radio Show to an Independent Music Platform

One of the most important projects in Nora En Pure's career has been Purified. Its story began as a radio format: Purified Radio has existed since 2014 and gradually developed into a weekly show focused on deep, melodic and tech house. The programme is distributed through digital platforms and is also broadcast on SiriusXM Chill.

The next step was the launch of her own event series. Purified Events began during Miami Music Week in 2017, after which events under the Purified name were held in Miami, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Berlin, London, Johannesburg, Zurich, Prague and other cities.

At the end of 2019, a third element was added to the project: Purified Records. The label covers a range extending from calmer melodic and deep house to more club-oriented melodic house and techno. Nora En Pure acts not only as an artist, but also as a curator selecting music from other producers.

In 2026, Purified Radio reached a major milestone with its 500th episode. Nora En Pure's two-and-a-half-hour anniversary set was recorded at Selati Game Reserve in South Africa and once again brought together two of the central themes of her work: electronic music and nature.

Festivals, Residencies and DJ Mag

Nora En Pure's international touring career gradually took her to the stages of some of the world's largest festivals. Over the years, she has performed at Coachella, Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, Burning Man and other major events, while also securing club residencies at Wynn Las Vegas and Privilege Ibiza.

At the same time, the artist deliberately avoided shifting towards a harder, more commercial EDM sound simply to suit larger venues. In interviews, she has repeatedly explained that she prefers to adapt the intensity of a set to the audience while preserving her own musical identity. That consistency became one of the reasons Nora En Pure's relatively calm and melodic music was able to establish itself on major festival stages.

In 2020, she entered the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs for the first time at number 73, climbing to number 59 the following year. Nora En Pure also won the International Dance Music Award for Best House Artist (Female) in both 2019 and 2020.

Nature as Part of the Music, Not Merely Decoration

Nora En Pure's connection with nature extends far beyond cover artwork and video shoots. She has said that she finds musical ideas far more often in forests, mountains and by the ocean than in urban environments. Natural sounds have been used in some tracks, while titles such as Zambia, Lake Arrowhead, Polynesia, Aquatic, Wetlands, Sherwood Forest and Teahupoo directly continue this theme.

Through Purified, the environmental theme also developed a practical dimension. In collaboration with the conservation platform OnlyOne, the label connected its release artwork with underwater photography and announced that part of the income from releases would be directed towards conservation projects. Nora En Pure also became an ambassador for the initiative.

The Purified 500 anniversary episode was created in cooperation with Selati Game Reserve and the Selati Wilderness Foundation, while the accompanying campaign focused on supporting wildlife research and conservation projects in South Africa.

Music of the 2020s

In the early 2020s, Nora En Pure continued to alternate atmospheric compositions with more functional club records. Notable releases from this period include In Your Eyes, Delta / Bartok, Monsoon, Thermal, Oblivion, Aquatic, Life on Hold, Luscious Rain, Gratitude, Spring Embers and Wholehearted.

In 2023, she also recorded her own version of Donna Lewis's I Love You Always Forever. The project appeared as part of an Atlantic Records anniversary programme and revealed a more pronounced vocal-pop side of her production while preserving her characteristic restrained house foundation.

The following period brought Pretoria, Protected with Richard Walters, Senses of Comfort, Teahupoo and Watermark. In 2026, she released Tibet and another collaboration with Richard Walters, Don't Wake Up. In June of the same year, Khen's remix of Spring Embers appeared. These releases demonstrate that Nora En Pure's catalogue continues to be built not around traditional studio albums, but around a steady flow of standalone singles and EPs.

Why Nora En Pure's Sound Is So Recognisable

Nora En Pure's musical language is built on the meeting of two contrasting elements. On one side is a steady house rhythm and a structure designed for the dancefloor. On the other are piano, strings, wind instruments, spacious synthesisers and long atmospheric passages that can resemble film music. Daniela herself has cited soundtracks as an important source of inspiration.

At the same time, actual field recordings of nature are not used as literally as some biographies of the artist suggest. Nora En Pure has explained that she prefers carefully selected and processed organic samples that create the impression of a natural environment, rather than necessarily using direct recordings of waves, birds or wind.

This approach allows her music to exist between several genre categories. Her early catalogue was more often classified as deep house and indie dance, while her later work increasingly overlaps with melodic house, progressive house and organic house. The stylistic evolution has nevertheless been gradual, without abandoning the melodic foundation established during the first half of the 2010s.

The sequence of these releases highlights one of the defining features of Nora En Pure's career: it developed not through occasional large-scale album campaigns, but through continuous studio work, DJ performances and the independent ecosystem she built around Purified.

Nora En Pure's Place on the Contemporary House Scene

Nora En Pure carved out her own niche during a period when international festival electronic music was increasingly moving towards louder and more aggressive sounds. Rather than following that trend, she preserved a melodic and relatively restrained form of house, gradually expanding it from smaller clubs to major festival stages. DJ Mag has specifically highlighted her ability to maintain this organic musical identity while performing for large audiences.

Purified became an equally important extension of her career. What began as an artist-led radio show developed into an international event series, an independent record label and a platform for other producers. Through it, Nora En Pure established herself in electronic music not only as a DJ and producer of her own tracks, but also as a curator of a particular direction within the contemporary melodic and deep house scene.

From Come With Me to her later instrumental and vocal productions, Nora En Pure's music has retained one recognisable idea: combining the rhythm of the dancefloor with a sense of open space, live instrumentation and the natural world. That consistency, rather than the pursuit of individual musical trends, has become the foundation of her enduring international career.
