Made in Ukraine

Made in Ukraine is a Ukrainian music group formed in 1996 in Luhansk. The band became known for modern dance-oriented interpretations of Ukrainian folk songs, combining traditional melodies with pop music, Eurodance and electronic pop production.

The idea for Made in Ukraine came from producer Vitalii Myronenko. The project's first arranger, sound producer and one of the key architects of its early sound was Anton Koffin. Made in Ukraine initially existed as a studio experiment, but the success of the debut album «Розпрягайте, хлопці, коней» led to the formation of a live lineup and many years of concert activity.

The formation of Made in Ukraine

The project began in 1996 at the «Prestige» recording studio in Luhansk. Vitalii Myronenko proposed that Anton Koffin create contemporary dance versions of Ukrainian folk songs using techniques characteristic of mid-1990s European dance and pop music.

Koffin was responsible for arrangements, programming, recording and vocal processing. Yurii Diehtiev also took part in the studio work. The first songs were recorded by vocalists Ruslan Yudin and Svitlana Trotska. At this early stage, Made in Ukraine did not yet have a permanent live lineup.

«Розпрягайте, хлопці, коней»

The debut album «Розпрягайте, хлопці, коней» was released in 1996.

Its repertoire included well-known Ukrainian songs:

  • «Розпрягайте, хлопці, коні»;
  • «Несе Галя воду»;
  • «Ой, чий то кінь стоїть»;
  • «Ти ж мене підманула»;
  • «Ой, Марічко, чичері»;
  • «Ой ти, дівчино зарученая»;
  • «Пісня про рушник» and other songs.

The traditional melodies were given electronic arrangements inspired by the popular European dance music of the period. The album circulated widely on audio cassette and transformed what had originally been a studio concept into a fully fledged music project.

The first live lineup

Following the success of the debut album, Made in Ukraine began receiving offers to perform live. A concert lineup was formed featuring Ruslan Yudin, Olena Hudkova, Oleksandr Kovalenko and Anton Koffin. Hudkova was later replaced by Natalia Tabunkova.

The lineup changed several times during the group's early years as Made in Ukraine gradually evolved from a predominantly studio-based project into an active live act.

Albums of the late 1990s

After the debut, the group continued recording new material at a rapid pace.

In 1997, Made in Ukraine released the albums «Судний день» and «Назавжди». By this point, the repertoire was no longer limited exclusively to folk songs: original compositions and contemporary Ukrainian pop material also began to appear.

In 1998, the group released the satirical project «12+1 москальських пісень про другорядне», built around musical parody.

The next stage of the discography included «Баунті», «Ще…», «Щедрий вечір» and «Смачні речі». By the early 2000s, Made in Ukraine were working not only with folklore but also with pop music, festive repertoire and genre experiments.

Tetiana Dehtiarova and the development of the lineup

In 1998, Tetiana Dehtiarova joined Made in Ukraine. Over the following years, she became the group's most recognizable lead vocalist and one of the central figures in its history.

Dehtiarova received professional musical training at the Reinhold Glière Kyiv State Higher Music College, graduating in 2003 with a specialization in vocal performance. Over time, she became involved not only as a singer but also as artistic director of Made in Ukraine, contributing to the development of concert programs and the group's stage image.

In 2011, Tetiana Dehtiarova was awarded the honorary title of Merited Artist of Ukraine.

After many years with Made in Ukraine, the singer began developing her own project, DEHTIAROVA. In 2025, she released the solo songs «Фенікс» and «Ангел мрій» under that name.

The move expanded the project's studio and concert opportunities. Infrastructure connected with the team later became the basis of the company «Prestige Concert», which provided technical production for events, including stage equipment, sound and lighting.

Musical style

Made in Ukraine's principal direction became folk-dance — a contemporary interpretation of Ukrainian song tradition using electronic and pop production.

The group's sound is characterized by:

This approach allowed the group to appeal both to listeners familiar with traditional Ukrainian repertoire and to audiences interested in contemporary dance music.

«Класика»

In 2008, Made in Ukraine released the album «Класика», with Tetiana Dehtiarova serving as the recording's lead vocalist.

The album continued the group's core concept of giving well-known Ukrainian songs a contemporary musical interpretation.

During this period, Dmytro Myronenko began taking part in the group's live activities. He had grown up in the creative environment surrounding Made in Ukraine and had accompanied the group on tour from childhood. In 2010, Tetiana Kryvenko joined the lineup.

«Потанцюймо?!»

The next major album project was «Потанцюймо?!», released in the early 2010s.

By this period, live performance had become one of the defining elements of Made in Ukraine. The group appeared at festivals, city celebrations, open-air venues and various cultural events across Ukraine.

«Смуглянка»

«Смуглянка» occupies a distinct place in the Made in Ukraine repertoire. The group recorded its own Ukrainian-language interpretation of the song and released a music video.

Digital catalogs also include an album titled «Смуглянка», featuring «В саду гуляла», «А я чорнява», «Чом ти не прийшов», «Іванку, Іванку», «Ой, чорна я си чорна» and other Ukrainian songs.

The Revolution of Dignity and performances for Ukrainian servicemen

During the 2013–2014 Revolution of Dignity, Made in Ukraine performed on Kyiv's Maidan and supported the protest movement.

Following the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the group took part in charity events and performed for Ukrainian servicemen.

Patriotic material was added to the repertoire, including «Героям АТО!» and «За Україну!».

Digital reissues

A significant part of Made in Ukraine's early discography was created during the era of audio cassettes and compact discs. As streaming services developed, the group began transferring its archival catalog to digital platforms and recording updated versions of well-known songs.

Digital catalogs have included compilations such as «Українські народні пісні», «Кращі пісні», «Гарячі українські хіти», «Нові хіти» and other releases.

Some songs exist in several different versions, meaning that their digital release dates may differ from the year in which they were originally recorded.

Live activity

Made in Ukraine have remained an actively touring group throughout most of their history.

During their first decades, the group played more than 1,200 concerts in different regions of Ukraine. Their live programs combined electronic arrangements of folk songs, original material and classics of Ukrainian popular music.

Bright costumes incorporating elements of Ukrainian national styling became an important part of the group's stage identity. Traditional motifs were used as part of a contemporary pop aesthetic rather than as a literal reconstruction of historical dress.

Made in Ukraine in Ukrainian pop music

Made in Ukraine emerged in the mid-1990s, at a time when Ukrainian popular music was actively embracing electronic technology and exploring new ways to work with the country's musical heritage.

The debut album «Розпрягайте, хлопці, коней» established the project's core model: familiar Ukrainian melodies were given contemporary dance rhythms and synthesizer-driven arrangements. The group later expanded its repertoire with original songs, pop classics and stylistic experiments without abandoning its folk foundation.

Over three decades, Made in Ukraine have evolved from a Luhansk studio project of the cassette era into an active group with a renewed lineup and an extensive digital discography. A contemporary interpretation of Ukrainian song remains the central thread connecting the band's earliest recordings with its latest releases.
