Lolita Markovna Milyavskaya (née Gorelik; born November 14, 1963, in Mukachevo, Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukrainian SSR) is a singer, actress, television host and director of variety programs. She became widely known as a member of the cabaret duo «Академия», where she performed together with Alexander Tsekalo. After the duo ended its activities in 2000, she began a solo career. Among Lolita’s best-known songs are «Пошлю его на…», «Ориентация Север», «Прощай, оружие!», «Шпилька-каблучок», «На Титанике», «Раневская» and «По-другому».
Lolita is one of those artists whose stage identity was never built around a single musical genre. Her repertoire includes mainstream pop music, urban romance, chanson, dance tracks, as well as elements of blues and pop rock. Yet genre diversity has always been less important to her than the dramatic structure of a song: the lyrics, acting intonation, pauses, self-irony and emotional delivery.
Childhood and education
Lolita was born in Mukachevo into a family connected with the professional entertainment scene. Her mother, Alla Nikiforova, was a singer who worked in jazz and variety ensembles. Her father, Mark Gorelik, was involved in concert activities and worked as an emcee and program organizer.
Because her parents toured frequently, Lolita spent a significant part of her childhood with relatives in Lviv. While still a teenager, she gained her first professional stage experience and worked for some time as a backing vocalist.
The widespread claim that Milyavskaya received vocal training in Kyiv is incorrect. In 1985, she graduated from the Tambov branch of the Moscow State Institute of Culture with a specialization related to directing cultural and mass-entertainment productions. This directing background later became clearly visible in the way she approached concerts as complete theatrical performances rather than simply sequences of individual songs.
Odesa and the beginning of her work with Alexander Tsekalo
After graduating, Lolita worked at the Odesa Philharmonic. During this period, she met Alexander Tsekalo. Their collaboration gradually developed into the cabaret duo «Академия».
In the late 1980s, the artists moved to Moscow. The concept of «Академия» differed noticeably from most variety duos of the time. Tsekalo and Milyavskaya did not limit themselves to simply performing songs: their numbers were structured as short stage stories with dialogue, comedy scenes, parody and elements of musical theatre.
The physical contrast between the two performers also became part of their image, but it would be wrong to reduce the popularity of «Академия» solely to that device. The duo had a recognizable repertoire and its own form of stage dramaturgy, allowing them to work simultaneously in musical and comedy genres.
Cabaret duo «Академия»
The first major album release by «Академия» was «Маленький переворот», released in the early 1990s. One of the key songs of their early period was «Тома». It helped the duo establish itself on television and move from the club and concert circuit to an all-Union and later Russian mainstream entertainment audience.
The next important stage was the album «Небальные танцы». It was followed by «Хочешь, но молчишь», «Свадьба», «Отпечатки пальчиков» and «Ту-Ту-Ту, На-На-На».
The duo’s repertoire included songs such as «Тома», «Хочешь, но молчишь», «Баден-Баден», «Зараза», «Когда муж пошёл за пивом», «Догги», «Я обиделась» and «Ту-ту-ту». Some programs deliberately used the aesthetics of urban romance and chanson, while others were closer to pop music and musical cabaret.
Throughout the 1990s, «Академия» existed as more than just a musical act. Lolita and Alexander Tsekalo also worked together on television, appeared in entertainment programs and gradually became a fully established television duo.
They hosted the program «TV-пицца», later «Утренняя почта», and then «Доброе утро, страна!». This format was a natural continuation of their stage model, where improvisation, dialogue and comedy delivery played major roles.
By the end of the 1990s, the personal and creative relationship between Milyavskaya and Tsekalo had come to an end. In 2000, «Академия» ceased to exist.
Beginning of her solo career
After the breakup of «Академия», Lolita faced a difficult task: creating an independent image that would not be perceived simply as a continuation of the former duo. Her first solo recordings showed that she had decided to abandon the idea of a permanent stage partner and instead build her program around her own biography, personality and performance style.
Her debut solo album was «Цветочки». Her early independent repertoire included «Цветочки», «Отвали», as well as «Песня о женской дружбе», recorded with Alyona Apina.
Already during this period it became clear that solo Lolita would differ significantly from the Lolita of the «Академия» years. The comic intonation remained, but it was joined by more personal material — songs about breakups, loneliness, failed relationships and inner freedom.
«Шоу разведённой женщины»
In 2003, Lolita released her second solo album, «Шоу разведённой женщины». Its title accurately reflected Milyavskaya’s new stage principle: events from her own life were transformed into material for songs and concerts.
The album was accompanied by a concert program of the same name. Rather than trying to create an idealized image of a pop star, Lolita built the performance around the figure of an adult woman with experience of marriages, divorces, disappointments and new relationships.
During the same period, she played Matron Morton in the Russian production of the musical «Chicago». The role suited Milyavskaya naturally, combining vocals, grotesque acting, theatrical presence and musical theatre.
«Формат» and «Пошлю его на…»
In 2005, the album «Формат» was released. One of its central songs was «Пошлю его на…». The track quickly moved beyond the status of an ordinary album song and became one of the numbers most strongly associated with Lolita’s solo career in the mid-2000s.
Its success was not due solely to its provocative title. The song matched Milyavskaya’s established stage persona perfectly — a heroine capable of speaking about personal failure without sentimentality and turning a breakup into an ironic monologue.
«Неформат» and «Ориентация Север»
In the mid-2000s, Lolita presented the concert program «Мне 41… А кто даст?». Material associated with this period later appeared in the album project «Неформат». Because of different release versions, these titles are sometimes mixed together in discographies, although it is more accurate to treat the concert program and the album separately.
In 2007, the album «Ориентация Север» was released. The title song became one of the biggest hits of Milyavskaya’s solo career. Musically, it was no longer cabaret or a comedy number, but a carefully constructed dramatic pop song with a large chorus and the conversational phrasing characteristic of the singer.
«Ориентация Север» demonstrated an important change in her repertoire: Lolita could hold the listener’s attention without relying on provocation or a comic scenario. Dramatic interpretation itself was becoming increasingly important.
«Фетиш»
In 2008, the album «Фетиш» appeared. Its sound featured a noticeably stronger electronic component. The arrangements became harder and more rhythmic than in her earlier solo work.
One of the key tracks was «Прощай, оружие!». Here, Milyavskaya used a performance method that had already become characteristic of her: a verse could sound almost like conversation or an internal monologue, while the chorus delivered the emotional climax.
«Анатомия»
The next full-length studio album, «Анатомия», was released in 2014. By that time, the singer had noticeably reduced the number of openly comic numbers in her repertoire.
The album included, among others, «Шпилька-каблучок» and «Я». Themes in her later period were increasingly connected not with outward provocation, but with age, relationships and reassessment of her own past.
In 2015, the project «Неизданное» was released, consisting of recordings that had not been included on her main numbered albums.
«На Титанике»
One of the most important songs from the second decade of Lolita’s solo career was «На Титанике». It is a particularly clear example of her mature performance style. The song does not depend on vocal showmanship: its effect comes from the gradual development of the lyrics and the way the singer changes her intonation from line to line.
«На Титанике» restored Milyavskaya’s strong presence in contemporary pop music and was later included on her next studio album.
«Раневская»
In 2018, the album «Раневская» was released. It included «На Титанике», «Ты моё море», «Раневская», «Правде в глаза», «Намисто (Ожерелье)», «Таксисты», «Чудо чудное», «Целую», «Колыбельная» and other recordings.
The title track became one of the defining songs of Milyavskaya’s later period. Despite its title, it is not a biographical song about Faina Ranevskaya. The image of the famous actress is used more as a cultural association connected with loneliness, independence, age and a sarcastic attitude toward one’s own experiences.
The album as a whole clearly demonstrates how the artist changed over the course of her solo career. Provocation remained part of her public image, but in the music something else became more important — her ability to perform a song as a small dramatic scene.
Singles and work outside the album format
After «Раневская», Milyavskaya largely abandoned the regular release of large studio albums and shifted toward standalone singles. This approach reflects the modern music-market model and allows artists to release new material without having to assemble it into a full-length record.
In the following years, songs such as «Шампанское», «По-другому» and other tracks appeared. At the same time, a new audience began discovering the singer’s older recordings through streaming services and short-form video platforms. Songs such as «Ориентация Север», «На Титанике» and «Пошлю его на…» gained a second life outside the original context of their release.
For Lolita’s 60th birthday in 2023, the compilation «И этим всё сказано» was prepared, bringing together songs from different periods of her solo career.
Acoustic versions
In 2025, the project «VK Акустика» was released. It is not a new studio album with original repertoire, but a collection of acoustic reworkings of well-known songs.
New arrangements were created for «По-другому», «Ориентация Север», «На Титанике», «Раневская», «Фетиш», «За пивом» and other compositions. The acoustic format suits Milyavskaya’s material well because it brings the lyrics and performance intonation to the foreground — two of the most consistent features of her repertoire.
Television
Television occupies a place in Lolita’s biography no less significant than music. While still part of «Академия», she gained experience working regularly on camera, and after beginning her solo career she went on to host her own shows and major entertainment programs.
From 2005 to 2007, Channel One aired the talk show «Лолита. Без комплексов». The program focused on family relationships, psychological conflicts and participants’ private lives. In 2007, Milyavskaya received the TEFI Award for her work as a talk-show host.
She was also a co-host of the musical project «Две звезды», worked on the program «Суперстар», and repeatedly participated in televised music competitions as a host, judge or guest performer.
Theatre and film
Acting has never been Milyavskaya’s main professional direction, but her directing education and stage manner allowed her to work naturally in musical theatre.
In addition to the musical «Chicago», she participated in stage productions and musical television projects and appeared in films and television productions. Most of her acting work in one way or another made use of qualities already familiar from her stage career — temperament, comic delivery and the ability to interact directly with the audience.
Musical style
Lolita’s catalog is difficult to describe using a single genre. During the «Академия» period, musical cabaret, variety comedy and stylizations of urban romance played major roles. In her solo discography, pop music became the foundation, while individual recordings also incorporate elements of chanson, blues, rock and electronic dance music.
From a performance perspective, something else is more important: Milyavskaya is a dramatic-type singer. She rarely tries to make technical vocal complexity the main virtue of a song. Much more often, the composition is built around the lyrics and the personality of its heroine.
In her performance, one line can sound almost casual, the next sarcastic, while the chorus turns into an emotional climax. This technique can be heard particularly clearly in «Ориентация Север», «На Титанике» and «Раневская».
Another constant feature of her work is the absence of a strict boundary between biography and stage persona. Age, divorces, failed relationships and changes in appearance have repeatedly become part of the dramaturgy of her concerts. At the same time, the lyrics of all her songs should not automatically be treated as direct autobiography: Milyavskaya primarily interprets material as an actress.
Personal life
Lolita has been married several times. Her first husband was Alexander Belyaev. Her second marriage, to Vitaly Milyavsky, was formal; she later kept his surname.
Her most famous personal and creative partnership was with Alexander Tsekalo. They lived together for many years and created «Академия», although they officially registered their relationship much later than the beginning of their life together. Their separation coincided with the end of the duo.
Milyavskaya was later married to Alexander Zarubin and Dmitry Ivanov.
In 1998, the singer gave birth to a daughter, Eva. Alexander Tsekalo is not her biological father — a detail Milyavskaya herself later clarified publicly on several occasions.
Place in popular music
Lolita’s story is especially interesting because it effectively contains two independent careers. The first was connected with «Академия» and musical television of the 1990s. The second began after the age of forty and gradually became longer than the history of the duo itself.
After «Академия», Milyavskaya did not attempt to reproduce the same model with a new partner. Instead, she built her repertoire around solo interpretation of songs and turned her own life experience into part of her stage method.
Several distinct periods can be clearly identified in her catalog. «Тома», «Зараза» and «Ту-ту-ту» belong to the aesthetics of «Академия». «Отвали» and «Пошлю его на…» shaped her early solo image. «Ориентация Север» marked the transition toward more serious pop dramaturgy, while «На Титанике» and «Раневская» became central songs of her mature period.

Lolita Milyavskaya has traveled a path from musical cabaret and television entertainment of the 1990s to an independent pop career spanning several decades. Her repertoire changed along with the music industry, but her approach to performing songs remained recognizable: for her, the text is almost always more important than vocal effect, and each performance is constructed like a small stage role. It is this quality that connects such different recordings as «Тома», «Пошлю его на…», «Ориентация Север», «На Титанике» and «Раневская».
