Jonas Brothers are an American pop-rock band formed in 2005 by brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas. The group began its career with Columbia Records, achieved mainstream fame after moving to Disney-owned Hollywood Records, and became one of the most prominent teen-pop acts of the second half of the 2000s.
At different stages, Jonas Brothers’ music has combined pop-rock, power pop, acoustic ballads, elements of R&B, funk and contemporary dance-pop. Jonas Brothers members
Kevin Jonas (Paul Kevin Jonas II; born November 5, 1987, Teaneck, New Jersey) is the eldest of the three members, a guitarist and vocalist.
Joe Jonas (Joseph Adam Jonas; born August 15, 1989, Casa Grande, Arizona) is one of the band’s lead vocalists, as well as a songwriter and musician.
Nick Jonas (Nicholas Jerry Jonas; born September 16, 1992, Dallas, Texas) is a vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
The brothers also have a younger sibling, Franklin Jonas, who has also pursued music and entertainment, although he is not a member of Jonas Brothers.
Family and first steps in music
Despite being born in different places, the brothers grew up primarily in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Their father, Paul Kevin Jonas Sr., was involved in music, wrote songs and served as a pastor, while their mother, Denise Jonas, taught sign language and sang. Music was part of the family’s everyday life long before the creation of a professional group.
Nick was the first to approach the professional stage. As a child, he began performing in musical theatre and appeared in Broadway productions including A Christmas Carol, Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables.
His early recordings attracted attention from the music industry, and initially a Nick Jonas solo project was being considered.
How Jonas Brothers were formed
While preparing solo material, Nick began writing and recording songs together with Joe and Kevin.
The brothers’ joint recordings impressed Columbia Records executives considerably more than the original idea of a solo artist. As a result, the company offered a contract to all three.
That is how Jonas Brothers were formed in 2005.
Their early material was created at the intersection of pop-rock, power pop and teen-oriented alternative music. The brothers were actively involved in songwriting and played instruments, which distinguished them from many vocal teen-pop acts of the period.
It's About Time
The debut studio album It's About Time was released on August 8, 2006 through Columbia Records.
Professional songwriters and producers contributed to the project, including Desmond Child and Adam Schlesinger.
One of the first notable songs was Mandy, but the most enduring track from this period became Year 3000 — a cover of a song by British band Busted.
The Jonas Brothers version featured adapted lyrics and became a regular on Radio Disney. After being re-released, the song reached number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the group’s first US Top 40 hit.
The album itself performed much more modestly, reaching number 91 on the Billboard 200.
Leaving Columbia and moving to Disney
Despite their growing audience, the commercial performance of the first album did not satisfy Columbia Records. In early 2007, the group left the label.
Soon afterward, Jonas Brothers signed with Hollywood Records, owned by Disney Music Group.
The move radically changed the scale of their career. The group’s music began receiving heavy promotion through Radio Disney and Disney Channel, while the brothers themselves became regular participants in the company’s television projects.
Jonas Brothers
The second studio album Jonas Brothers was released in August 2007.
On this record, the group fully established its early signature sound — guitar-driven pop-rock with big melodic choruses and a dynamic rhythm section.

Hannah Montana and the Disney Channel phenomenon
In August 2007, the brothers appeared in the series Hannah Montana alongside Miley Cyrus. The episode became part of a period of especially close collaboration between the group and Disney.
Jonas Brothers also joined selected dates of the Best of Both Worlds Tour, performing in front of large audiences of Disney Channel fans.
By the end of 2007, the group’s music career was already closely connected with television, touring and Disney’s broader media ecosystem.
Camp Rock
One of the most important stages of their rise to fame was the musical television film Camp Rock, first broadcast on Disney Channel in 2008.
Joe Jonas played Shane Gray, while Nick and Kevin portrayed his Connect 3 bandmates, Nate and Jason. The central female role was played by Demi Lovato.
The film attracted a television audience of millions and significantly expanded the international popularity of Jonas Brothers.

The third studio album A Little Bit Longer was released in August 2008.

Burning Up Tour
In the summer of 2008, the group embarked on the Burning Up Tour, which became one of the central concert projects of their first era.

In 2009, the concert film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was released in cinemas.

The live album Music from the 3D Concert Experience was released the same year.
Lines, Vines and Trying Times
The fourth studio album Lines, Vines and Trying Times was released on June 16, 2009.
The record again debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

From 2009 to 2010, the brothers starred in their own Disney Channel series JONAS, which was renamed JONAS L.A. for its second season.
In 2010, the film Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam was released, with Joe, Nick and Kevin once again playing the members of Connect 3.
By this point, Jonas Brothers existed simultaneously as a touring band, recording act, television performers and part of a major Disney franchise.
Hiatus and individual projects
After the intensive workload of the late 2000s, the brothers began devoting more attention to individual projects.
Nick Jonas formed Nick Jonas & the Administration and later launched a full-scale solo career. His 2014 album Nick Jonas included the successful singles Jealous and Chains. In addition to music, he worked actively in film, theatre and television.
Joe Jonas released the solo album Fastlife in 2011 and formed the band DNCE in the middle of the decade. Its single Cake by the Ocean became an international hit.
Kevin Jonas focused on family, entrepreneurial projects and television while maintaining ties with the music industry.
Attempted comeback and breakup in 2013
In the early 2010s, the brothers attempted to return to recording together and began preparing a new album that was referred to as V.
In 2013, they released the singles Pom Poms and First Time.
However, work on the album was accompanied by serious creative disagreements. In October, the group unexpectedly canceled a planned tour, and shortly afterward the brothers announced the end of their joint activities.
Material from the unfinished album later appeared in part on the compilation LiVe, released for fan-club members.
Six years away from Jonas Brothers
The period between 2013 and 2019 allowed each member to establish his own professional identity.
Nick’s solo pop career and Joe’s international success with DNCE were especially prominent. Kevin developed business projects and participated in television formats.
At the same time, the brothers’ relationship gradually improved outside the obligations of the group.
While working on a documentary project about their family and musical history, they began discussing the possibility of recording together again.
Reunion and Sucker
On March 1, 2019, Jonas Brothers released Sucker — the group’s first new single in almost six years.
The comeback proved far more successful than a typical nostalgia-driven reunion.
Sucker debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It became Jonas Brothers’ first number-one hit on the main US singles chart.
The song also demonstrated a change in sound: guitar-driven teen pop-rock gave way to contemporary pop production with elements of funk, R&B and electronic rhythm.
The song received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Chasing Happiness
Alongside their musical return, the group released the documentary film Chasing Happiness.
In it, the brothers spoke in detail about their family history, early career, rise within the Disney system, conflicts and the events that led to the 2013 breakup.
The film became an important part of the reunion: the new chapter was presented not as an attempt to restore their teenage image, but as a continuation of the story of musicians who had grown into adulthood.
Happiness Begins
On June 7, 2019, the fifth studio album Happiness Begins was released — the first full-length Jonas Brothers record in ten years.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 414,000 equivalent album units in its first week.

After completing the album cycle, the group continued releasing standalone singles.
In 2020, they released What a Man Gotta Do and X, recorded with Colombian singer Karol G.

In 2021, Jonas Brothers and Marshmello released the collaborative single Leave Before You Love Me.

In August 2023, the group began a major tour whose original concept was built around performing material from five core albums in one night.

The tour continued through 2024 and covered North America, Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
20th anniversary of Jonas Brothers
In 2025, the group celebrated twenty years since its formation.
The anniversary was not only an occasion for retrospection: the brothers prepared a new album, a large-scale concert program and several projects that revisited different periods of their history.

Greetings From Your Hometown
On August 8, 2025, Jonas Brothers released their seventh studio album Greetings From Your Hometown.
The title reflects the central theme of the record — returning to their own roots after twenty years of professional career.

JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour
The anniversary JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour began on August 10, 2025 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The concert concept covered virtually the entire history of the group: the early albums, the Disney era, the brothers’ solo projects, DNCE, post-reunion material and songs from Greetings From Your Hometown.
Different concerts featured guest musicians connected with particular stages of Jonas Brothers’ career.
The tour became one of the central projects of the group’s twentieth anniversary.
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie
On November 14, 2025, the musical comedy A Very Jonas Christmas Movie premiered on Disney+ and Hulu.
Kevin, Joe and Nick played fictionalized versions of themselves. In the story, the brothers try to return to New York for Christmas after a concert in London and encounter a series of travel problems.
The film was directed by Jessica Yu. Chloe Bennet, Billie Lourd, Laverne Cox and other actors also appeared in the movie.
The official soundtrack featuring new holiday songs was released on the day of the premiere.
Return to Camp Rock
In September 2025, Disney announced production of Camp Rock 3.
Jonas Brothers returned to their roles as members of the fictional band Connect 3:
- Joe Jonas — Shane Gray;
- Nick Jonas — Nate Gray;
- Kevin Jonas — Jason Gray.
All three also served as executive producers of the film alongside Demi Lovato.
Camp Rock 3 was first shown on Disney Channel on August 13, 2026, and arrived on Disney+ on August 14.

On August 16, 2026, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas were officially named Disney Legends in the Television and Music category.

In the summer of 2026, the group returned to one of the best-known concert periods of its early career.
On August 20, The Burning Up Tour All Over Again began at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The idea was originally conceived as a short series of special concerts dedicated to the 2008 tour. High demand led to its expansion into a full-scale tour across 45 cities in the United States and Canada.
The concert is divided into two main parts: the first revisits the program of the Burning Up era, while the second covers later music, including post-reunion material.
Listen When Sad
At the first concert of The Burning Up Tour All Over Again, Jonas Brothers introduced a new song titled Listen When Sad.
The song draws on the guitar-driven pop-punk and pop-rock sound of the early 2000s and is connected with producer John Fields, who played an important role in the group’s early discography.
The official digital release of Listen When Sad is scheduled for August 28, 2026.
Solo careers and Jonas Brothers
One of the defining features of the group’s modern era is that there is no longer a need to choose between Jonas Brothers and individual careers.
Nick Jonas continues his own music and acting career and works in theatre, film and television.

Over two decades, the sound of Jonas Brothers has changed considerably.
