Индийский крестьянин Дашратх Манджхи принадлежал к низшей касте и жил в бедной деревушке, где не было ничего, даже больницы. Прямой путь к цивилизации – соседнему городку – преграждала скалистая гора. Была только дорога в обход, длинная и неудобная. Как–то жена Дашратха, карабкаясь по горе, упала и получила серьезную травму. Помощь вовремя оказать не смогли, и вскоре она умерла.
